This car that my Mrs has is driving me potty. It's had 4 rear wheel bearings on the nsr in the 3 years we have owned it. I but another bearing in the drum last month and there is bloody play in them.

I've checked the or and that's the same.

What wheel bearings have you lot used on your focuses.

I've heard cheap bearings don't last long. Mind you I paid 35 quid for the last bearing.

 

you might find hub has a bit too much wear glenn causing early death of bearings, I normally use qh, or what was unipart

 

Are hubs common for wearing.

 

they do go mate its pot luck really as I just changed my front & rear hubs for that reason on my last st and cured the early death, but touch wood so far my current one its fine

 

The bearings feel like a tight fit when they go on the hubs. This has got me thinking that it could be the bearings.

 

only way to tell for sure is the expensive way and fit OE if they go quite quick then hubs it is

 

The focus doesn't have hubs on the back. The bearing is inside the drum. I've seen a few hubs on cars and vans worn in the past.

 

I gave the back wheel a shake today when the car was on the floor and I can move the wheel. When going round corners the drum must be catching the backing plate.

I'm gonna go to where I got the bearing from and see if I can get another bearing.

 

its more common for drums to suffer from that than discs anyway, but as long as the inner bearing cup is changed when doing the bearing you have done all you can do glenn

 

Are you torquing them up to 235nm ?

Just fitted the bearing. There was still a bit of play in it after I've done it. It's the same as the or so I will keep an eye on it.

It's no making the scraping sound no more. I just need to fit the hand brake cable now cause its sticking. I only replaced it about a year and a half ago lol. These cheap shity parts.

 

Is the drum worn where the bearing locates? Did the new bearing press in very easily?

 

The bearing went in ok. I used a press.

 

this used to happen on one of my old focus ghia models in the end I did the st170 rear disc conversion as my drums were worn, I have seen some using the escort mk6 type rear bearing and others with the solid press in type glenn which is why I mentioned it, anyway lets hope new bearing lasts matey

Well me and the mrs are in the lakes and the sodding wheel bearing has gone again. Its in a garage as we speak and we have had to get a hire car.

I hate taking cars to garages when i can fix them myself. I just cant stop wheel bearings from fookin up on this focus though lol.

Will get a phone call tomorrow and see what the gargae says.

Sounds like nsr to me when you turn left the noise goes off. Its just like a catching/creeking noise.

Standard wheels matey. The garage phoned me today and he said he has fitted a new drum and bearing. I said i hadnt pressed the bearing in as far as it would go. I think this is a load of shite cause if its not all the way in the circlip wont go in. Also he reckons the drum might of been catching the backing plate.

 

Where have you been buying these bearings from?

 

There fag bearings from euro car parts. Theyhave cost me 30 quid.

Well i think they are. Ive heard not to buy cheap bearings.

 

We fit plenty of that make at work.

 

Cool. The one the bloke at the garage has put in cost 16 quid lol.

We are getting the car back today so i will see how it goes.it will need a set of brake shoes soon.
