Default Hi everyone! Im new =/ AND I NEED HELP! Mk5 Escort needed!

Hi everyone, im new to this site, but i have used it before to look at cars and dream about owning half of them, but i have only just made an account.

Anyways not trying to sound rushy, but in a few months time im starting college to do level 1 mechanics and this is a big feat for me. I want the perfect car to go to college in. I bought a citroen Saxo VTR, but it just didnt interest me =(

It was boring, it was nice for what it was, its a really quick car and it looked okay. But i always wanted a MK5 Escort, i once owned a MK5 Escort Quartz, but had to sell it as i was learing to drive and i needed something with power steering. It was a proper heart breaking moment for me.

So anyways, if anyone can help i am looking for a MK5 Escort 3DR in blue

I tryed to post this bit in the wanted cars/ for sale section but it didnt let me =/

And once i buy that MK5 if the right one comes along i will turn it into a Cosworth replica which no doubt i will need the help of this forum to do, my fathers a panel beater and knows the ins and out of cars and my brothers a mechanic. So they will do all the work but i will just be watching and learning and learning from you lot to =D

Im hoping one day i will know enough to be of use to people on forums like this for people who are ambitious or are in need of help with cars =D

But that will take a while as i only just turned 18 so im still learning.

So anyways, if you survived reading all of that can anyone please help me! I searched through everything looking for MK5 Cossies reps and mk5 3DR Escorts but i cant find any.

Hi,

If you build a rep, be prepared to pay huge insurance.

Save your money and buy a real one in a few years.

Yeah im not planing on changing the Engine or anything to do with the engine for a few years =D So insurance would be no problem.

Mainly just the body, and it wont be a full on rep just all my favourite bits, i don't like the idea of replicas. Prefer to add my own twist to it.

The problem is finding a MK5! They pop up from time to time but when they do pop up they just aren't right or they are to far away.

Also im not that rich to buy a real cossie =D Hahaha

If it looks like a Cosworth, it has almost as much chance of being nicked as a Cosworth.

That's the insurance way of thinking. And if you don't tell them, your insurance is void.

Lets be honest i dont think anyone tells their insurance companies everything they done

Well what are my options then? I want a proper good looking classic ford to go to college with, i dont want a year fling kind of car. Im going to be going to college to do mechanics i want something i can grow up with not sounding to corny haha =D

1. To be able to post a classified you need to be a gold member

2. Don't bother with a rep, the insurance will cripple you (sorry if that sounds nasty but that's the truth)

3. Yes tell the insurance company everything! If its different to how it left the factory, its a mod and needs to be declared, no harm in buying bits and storing them ready for when you have a NCD of your own

4. Keep an eye in local classifieds for one, dealers occasionaly get this sort of car in a "part ex to clear" way, might be able to get one cheap like that.

And lastly, welcome to PF!!!

Thanks for the Welcome! =D

And yeah i feared that, well yeah i wouldn't mind something that i maybe just had to store and do up for a few years until i insured it, i would never afford a cosworth and i have to stop saying the word REP =D

It wont be a replica theres thing of the cossie i like and things i dont =)

And i dont know, i know its risky not telling insurance about it, as you know if i got to college one day and some dickhead hits my car im fucked then, id have to rebuild it all over as i couldn't claim.

I can insure loads of things, dont know why it has to be a done up Escort.

I looked at insuring a Subaru Impreza Sport and i could for quite cheap with 1 years no claims, but i like my fords so =/

Good luck finding a nice 3dr mk5 escort. You don't need a cossie kit on it. Just keep it mint with a drop and some nice wheels. Trust me that will work better then a gash fibreglass bodykit.

There's a Mk5 RS2000 around the corner from me slowly rotting into the ground. It would be a good test of your old man's bodywork skills.

Mk1&2 fiestas are cool and cost little to insure, especially with a 1.1,mk4 escorts are very cool mate, and look the nuts done. I/we have a few mk4 escorts and I am rebuilding a mk2 fezz and thay can look mint done right. Why not buy a few ford mags and see what takes your fancy?

Ohh please mate call me Sam, haha lol at that one mate. As ford mags, there is retro ford and classic ford mag, there for the old skool stuff, mk1&2 escorts, capris anglias etc... then you got performance ford and fast ford there for all the more modern stuff.

finding 2 door mk5's or 6's is difficult now, 5 years ago there were plenty when I was buying mine but I sent 4 or more to the crusher and other people have done the same because they are not very nice cars so when they rust away there is no love to repair them, I had so many of them because I wanted to do what you are thinking of but gave up on the escorts and bought a Sierra and now a puma which are far better cars. Go with a mk4 Escort or early Fiesta.
If you do find one and need help collecting it then I might be able to help or if you would like to talk about creating the cosworth look then I will happily let you know my experiences

I had a cossie rep wen I was younger I might have some parts lying around bumpers and spoilers if you decide to do a rep I loved mine BT like people sed they rot badly but if you can find a solid one then good on you I like the mk 5 rs 2000 . I rushed into buying my rep and ended up scrapping it after 6 months what I'm trying to say is don't rush and make sure it's solid

Oh my god seriously? Thanks Count and dan =D

Im going to college and also work in a professional garage so its not like i dont have any equipment, i have already been told by my boss in after hours i can use the work shop as someone is there to lock up afterwards, same with college =)

And Elvis, i dont know what you mean by help. Its definitely a dream though one i hope to turn into something real. Everyone in the family seems to be chipping in experience and money but i could only really spend 1k on the thing.

The Escort its self dont even have to be special, infact id rather it not be. i just want a 1.4 or a 1.3 3DR MK5A Escort, dad was a panel beater and is a mechanic and so is my brother so rusts not a problem. Its just finding the bloody thing which is the extremely hard part. Price is not a problem either, they go for fuck all when they pop up but thats the problem they dont pop up =)

I do not wish to sound negative but Ł1k is not going to go very far, you will end up spending that on getting the car on the road and to start modifying it you need another 1 or 2k. I had a very similar discussion with my wives grandson, buying an escort and doing body work will not be fun and you will not learn anything, buy a mk4 or fiesta put in a zetec with bike throttle bodies and programmable ecu and you will have learnt something use full and have a better car. He did not listen and bought a puma, but that's another story

As well as the rusty Mk5 RS2000, within a couple of minutes walk from me there's this Mk5 and what must be a very rare Mk6 Masquerade. There's also a four-door S reg Finesse but they're common as muck

But still see 10 times as many 90's Fiesta's although none of the sporty options.

I know what you mean Count, but thats all i got at the moment, bearing in mind yes normally you'd need more money than that but honestly im blessed to have my dad and my brother. They know so many people and are so skilled themselves with cars so making a cossie rep should not be as expensive, yeah i expect it will cost over 1k but not by much =D

And omg they look nice vac, but that just proves my point there are tons of 5DR escorts out there, its just the 3dr ones that are rare, and yeah there are a couple of Finesse around where i live. I see tons of MK6's about no MK5s though.

mk5 & mk5 facelifts are getting thin on the ground as are unmodified gti 3 dr models and 4 dr saloons in mk6 form, 5 dr hatchbacks are still around in mass numbers, rust is biggest killer of these no matter what year they are
