I do not wish to sound negative but £1k is not going to go very far, you will end up spending that on getting the car on the road and to start modifying it you need another 1 or 2k. I had a very similar discussion with my wives grandson, buying an escort and doing body work will not be fun and you will not learn anything, buy a mk4 or fiesta put in a zetec with bike throttle bodies and programmable ecu and you will have learnt something use full and have a better car. He did not listen and bought a puma, but that's another story
