Default Recommend me an Engine Builder

My 5 year XR2 resto project has hit a another hurdle, the engine I completely rebuilt from scratch has spun a bearing after 500 miles, so I've had to admit defeat and now want to hand it over to somebody that knows what they are doing.

The trouble I'm having is finding somebody that knows a bit about the CvH and will pull the engine and rebuild it, including crankshaft regrind.

The only place I know of is Specialised Engines (Essex), but if anybody can recommend somebody in central or South East England that would be very helpful.

Cheers
Nick

Hi, I guess you ideally want a cvh specialist? I know MA Developements does cossie and evo stuff but not sure on yours...an engine is an engine after all. There is a company next to the top gear track in duns fold with a good reputation but cannot remember their name. I wonder if Burton power could give you a list of people.

If not I would try to find a race series using these engines or something like formula ford and see who does theirs.

If your just looking for a resto type std rebuild any reputable engine builder will help doesn't need to be a tuner as such.

Burton power would be a good place to enquire, specialist engines ive not heard good thing about.

Other options

Harris performance engines Maidstone
Scholar engines Stowmarket
SCS Harvey Gibbs Peterborough

I used Vulcan Engineering when I had my Fiesta Turbo engine built some years ago, I was very please with the results. He is now based at Brandshatch, below is a link to my engine build, he has a lot of customers abroad so films the builds so they can see for themselves, it was all lightened and balanced aswell but there was a problem with the camera so that part wasnt filmed.

He builds most engines, some good pintos and crossflows, check out his other videos, this link is an amazing repair on a Gordini head

Although I didnt get him to build the Escos engine, I had a Cossie specialist build that

Wow, thanks guys, plenty to go with there.

I've heard of Vulcan and also know of Tommy Field (in fact I lived round the corner and his unit is in my old town) - but I assumed these guys were more into building race engines - but i'll given them a bell.

Oddkid i've never heard of, i'll try them also.

I didn't want to say anything but i've heard some negative press of SE before so I wasnted to see what the reaction there would be.

Default cvh

not "knocking" the race engine builders mentioned[far from it and excuse the pun] but a cvh is a fairly simple -old school engine and any decent engine place should be able to rebuild one-as should a skilled diy enthusiast
i wouldnt pay a tuners labour rate for what is a routine job in all honesty...

high power yb,4g63,skyline,rx7 -yes... cvh for a nice xr2-no

have to agree with Tony here; any decent engineering shop will be able to put it together for you if you dont fancy it.

the fact you've already built it once you obviously can put it together, so maybe just get a machine shop to put the bottom end back together once they've ground the crank (if thats what it needs)

Agree with what's been said about Specialised Engines!

Any of the other companies mentioned will sort you out no bother.

Lovely looking XR2!

Thanks again guys.

I've spoken to a few of the recommendations, and been recommended further from some of those i've called.

Anglian Engines in St Neots seemed really helpful and knowledgeable and i'm minded to take the engine to them - anybody used them before?
