Default Dvla FOI request on cosworths

So last month I put a FOI REQUEST to the dvla

I asked how many Cosworth where registers by year and colour

Now I was hoping they had info dating back to 1986ish and I could tell what was the rarest colour for each year

But the record only went back to 1994

It also told me how many Cosworth are sorn/ taxed. Up until the end of 2014 and the colour

it might Interest some of you and say me one may be able to understand it a bit better then me

Good work! As you can see Sapphire Cosworths are now rarer than 3 doors. 905 3doors road registered and Sapphires only 517 road registered. Up till 1999 there were over 2000 on the road. Wonder who owns the 1 Pink Sapphire ?

I think the first category 'Sierra RS Cosworth' will be a mix of 3dr, RS500 & the early Sapphs as they were badged as plain old Sierra RS, and as you can see that in 1994, 4845 were licenced which is pretty much the entire 3dr production run, and I'm sure many would have died before then.
After about 1990, I think they started being called Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth ( I stand to be corrected if anyone knows better)

Judging by the colours alone then there are lots of saffs and escort cosworths mixed into the list of "Sierra RS Cosworth" plus there were only less than half of the 5000 3drs in RHD so those figures are well off reality. Interesting info though

Regarding the colours, pink, brown, yellow, ivory/cream, purple and green I presume they were never factory options and are odd colours that owners have re-sprayed them and notified DVLA of the changes ?

I liked the part where 500 Saphs per year are falling off the road threw the early 90s

Be intresting to see if there are more 3drs left than saphs ...... sounds about right...

When you think about it ...

3dr shells are more likly over the last 10 years to be saved from rot or the dredded reshell into 1.8lx with funky shell stamp transfer.lol

My money is on more ligit 3drs than saphs shame as the saph is a much better road car with a higher spec...

Nice info there....

Knowing there is less 4x4 Sapphires left than 2wd & 3dr Cosworths can only be good for value surely?....
