I have a problem with my head lights. I have no main beam, I have checked the earths, they are ok and the relay is clicking away.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Should I be checking that on the wire that goes to the main beam bulb, or the harness to the headlamp. If I'm getting no power where do I go from there?

find the wire that powers up when you turn the beams on, then follow it into the lights, they are easy enough to take apart

it's probably a bad earth in the light itself if it's not a bad earth in the loom

Not sure if this makes much difference but previously when I tried main beam near side worked and the other went dim.

I take it the fuse is ok and there is power to the fuse.

Sounds like an earthing issue. You need to find where the headlamps earth to and give them a good clean up.

the bit the light stalk is connected to mate
if you remove the cover (depending on the car it's either easy, non adjustable, or a pain in the arse, adjustable) 3 screws underneath plus one above or 4 screws underneath, 2 that won't come out plus one at the top then move the column adjuster lever to remove the surround

you then have one multiplug and 2 screws, the wiring 'might' be different pre and post facelift cars and the hazzard light switch lens IS different (square on early, round on later cars) so make sure you get this with the replacement
