I popped along to the Vmax event at Bruntingthorpe on Saturday. Was a good day, a little rain but it didn't stop anything and soon cleared.
Some proper metal there; a guy brought along his P1, LaFerrari and 918, there was a second 918 there, a 3 Koenigseggs, a load of Lambos, 911s, modified GTRs and everything else in between.
Last time I went there was talk of why the Veryon was running so slow. Think it only just nudged 205mph or so as it wasn't in top speed mode. This time, due to the 200-odd lorry trailers stored there, only the main strip was running, so it was a standing start. The Veryon did a dozen runs, all very good with a best of 224mph! LaFerrari managed to 206mph. A turbochaged Lambo Gallardo managed 215mph as well.
Good day out, would have been nice to see a Ford there; not even a GT this time!

RS Fords don't do Topspeed runs. Ive tried hard to get interest in this event & gave up after 5 years of trying.
To me its the ultimate test of a cars Power but most think its boring. Hope to run at a Vmax in October & hopefully beat a few of these Supercars.

To be fair, the top speed side alone is pretty boring to watch really. It's the off the line stuff and generally getting up close and personal with some of these cars that makes it a special day. There isn't too many places in the world you will ever see a Bugatti Veryon drag race a LaFerrari.
Plenty of owners were drifting around the back corners coming back into the pits as well, which was good to watch!

If it blows up then atleast I will be forced to do the rebuild and maybe long stroke it.

Rod, they dont do 1/4's, they dont do race tracks lol Many dont even do public roads !
They polish them ! ( and repair rust
) or just take them apart and go get drunk
It was hell of a group of cars at the event though.

I agree Stevie it was very different 12 years ago with record attempts & lots of cars involved. They have just got old & outdated. There would have been a dozen Cossies taking on those Supercars. I can name them.
John Nutter, Euan Begbie, Bruce Reid, Mike Rainbird, Kevin Sharp, Neil ( Carwise), Andy Wornell, Ade Young, Dave Moss, Martin Hadland, Lee Manning, Tibb. The great days are long gone like a Nuns convention in here now compared to that list.

Things changed though Rod (possibly for the worst? Can of worms!) People moved on and grew out of the ford scene, think those that want to do top speed runs with tuned cars buy Jap now, don't forget when you lot were doing top speed stuff back in the day an rs500 was only a 15k car and that was halfway there (well not really but you get the idea) and a 2wd saph could be had for under 4k. I can see why, when you can get an early impreza for 2k (will plenty of work) or an evo6 for 5k, or even an R33 GTR for 10k, why go with a cosworth for more? Also the mags could no longer run the tops speed events, performance fords daddy thrash was an excellent way into top speed stuff, but sadly they cant do it no longer, think you could be the lone survivor sorry with top speed stuff. I do wish more would do them but being as I wont be doing them any time soon I cant say anything really.

I agree & should be glad, but im not, because it probably means that the Topspeed record will stand past my lifetime. That seems strange to say in fact scary. Any Cossie record attempt seems pointless without Martin but the Ford uk record needs defending so that's at least a Target to aim for.
Paul Bailey (the guy with the P1, La Ferrari and Porsche 918) was on TV last night, he showed his underground garage with 39 Supercars!!!! and his wife said "they hope to buy more" Seems a top bloke and happy to share his enthusiam without coming across as a show off.

A friend of mine has been to his house and seen his cars, supposed to be very nice collection. That was a while ago mind, so probably got a lot better recently.

Well you never know Rod, someone might decide one day to take on a record, here's hoping.
