Looking for a book that explains how to rebuild an engine, take all the measurements needed and the tools used etc etc. Anyone recommend a good read? Have seen this...

It's only Ł16, just buy it.

But really you'd be better if you can find a book aimed more specifically at the engine you wish to work at.

I have it, its a pretty good read, but it is geared a bit towards your old pushrod V8 type basic engines, still a nice read with a good bit of info in it, are you looking for an engine book in particular, or tuning and building?

Four-stroke Performance Tuning: A Practical Guide: Amazon.co.uk: A. Graham Bell: 9781844253142: Books Four-stroke Performance Tuning: A Practical Guide: Amazon.co.uk: A. Graham Bell: 9781844253142: Books

This^^ Book is also an excellent read, full of useful info, he has done a book on forced induction too but its going for sill amounts of money now. I have one or 2 also by David Vizard,
David Vizard's How to Build Horsepower (SA Design): Amazon.co.uk: David Vizard: 9781934709177: Books David Vizard's How to Build Horsepower (SA Design): Amazon.co.uk: David Vizard: 9781934709177: Books
another pretty good one but again focused more on big American V8s, he's also flow bench obsessed!

Personally out of the 3 I have posted, the book by A Graham Bell is the best IMO.

How to power tune the SOHC Pinto and YB n/a and turbo engines by Des Hammill.
Completely Ford/Pinto biased but has some fantastic insights to engine building. A bit old school now but you get a real appreciation of what the guy is trying to do.
Big plus is that it is free as a pdf of the net these days so have a search.

Just trying to find a book that will tell me the rebuild process. What and how to measure in order to determine new bearing shells, piston rings etc. Have always wanted to rebuild an engine, imagine it interesting and satisfying.

Not totally sure what is required, I have a full tool set (drop out after a year apprentice) and a few bits and bobs like a DTI, verniers etc etc. I know there is stuff on the internet and forums but would like a good reference.

What about letting a machine shop do all the measuring and you do the assembly?
