LEAKING OIL BAD helppppp
Right troops need some info/tips , my car was leaking oil really bad
as in all underneath my car front to back alot !!! looked at my sump gasket and looked well dodgy hanging out etc sooo got new gasket and took it all apart , put new gasket on with seeler and looked good put it up tightened everything back up filled with new oil and away i went sounds good but when i parked up and looked under my car guess what
there was and is stll oil (new stuff) so got it back up on ramp to have a look and all be it its NOT AS BAD as it was but is still all over the place , looks as if its coming from roundabout flywheel area near the sump if u no what i mean been told its maybe crankshaft seals but why is it not as BAD as it was ? are these sump gaskets dodgy ? or is it known for crankshaft seals to PISH oil everwhere under LOAD any help really really apreciated as im about to drive the car of the harbour
thanks

hi mate oil leeks are a bich would advise you to pressure clean under engine and see where it coming from but if not you sump then it could be either of the crankshaft seals but do check that you have sealed the sump properly ok mate let me know how you get pal , best of luck.
Will try to sort out soon as troops
its defo coming from (if looking up at sump lying underneath car its far left right hard against where flywheel meets the u in the sump) spent ages yesterday cleaning and took real care in doing the new gasket
but still a leak , what is the best way to tell what is leaking i know where its coming from but still cant tel if its sump not done right or it was always the crank seal
do crank seals put out alot of oil when leaking ? my flyheel seems to be spraying the oil everywhere making it a real mess

The best way a sump gasket is done is with the engine out and turned over other wise its very hard to get the sump gasket sitting right from underneath. I have an oil leak just gonna pressure clean it and see where its coming from but all the cvh engines i have had in my previous fords have leaked through the sump.
cvh sump gaskets are notoriously known for leaking if not fitted correctly!!! DO NOT use any sealing compound on the majority of the gasket! a little silcone sealer around the rounded area's at each end will do the job! if your doin it with the the engine in the car? then what will help is if you get some 6mm bolts, saw the heads off, then saw grooves in the top of them (so you can get them out after with a screwdriver) then screw them in every other bolt hole. when the sump is back up in its position, screw the proper bolts into the empty holes, then remove the bolts with the heads cut off and replace with the proper bolts! make sure you do the bolts up in a diagonal fashion and to the correct torque.

im pretty sure it is my sump gasket!! was gonna do it myself but after reading the above.............!!

I had the same problem with mine, when i put the engine back in last month i used all new gaskets including the crankseal one, but it all together and the bastard leaked oil, i changed the sump gasket twice and it didnt make any difference, looked at my flywheel and it was covered in oil!, in the end had to take engine back out to replace the crankseal again,
this time i brought a new carrier to put the seal in and its been fine now! not a drip!, i always use a bit of sealer around the half circle cut outs of the sump, and around the oil pump coz ive done one before without sealer and it pissed out everywhere!!

hello there mate i done my sump gasket 4 times and it was still leaking from the same area as yours ,now it might sound funny but this does work as i found out on the 5th time
.
take the sump of and clean it well specially at the top , now for the funny bit,
on the edges of the sump and where it bends super glue the gasket on, not too much glue just enough to hold it in place ,then clean the surface on the bottom end
where the sump goes, and fit the sump on tighten the bolts from the front of the sump all the way along to the other side but dont overtighten it . hopefully this should do the trick. good luck
mine never leaked after that.

guys this is how i do cvh sump gaskets and ive never ever had one leak one drop of oil i swear!
firstly make sure the block surface is clean and oil free, same with the sump, wipe with thinners if possible to make sure its not oily, then i use a spray glue called "trim tack" to stick the gasket to the block! DONT try sticking it on the sump youl never do it.
then give it a few minutes to dry and re- fit the sump tightening the bolts just enough untill they go tight. dont go mad or youl snap the bolts but dont worry about tightening them up properly, you wont squash the gasket, thats why theres metal studs on the face of the sump.
DONT use any kind of sealant or silicone on rubber gaskets it makes the rubber slippy on the metal and will cause the gasket to spread instead of gripping the metal and sealing!
NOTE before fitting the sump back on make sure its not distorted or has been real over tightened, you can tell by looking at the holes, they should be flat round the holes and not bevelled in.
i have also seen a fair few cvh sumps rot and leak out the actual metal (side) of the sump,so check for this too.
