Default Mk4 mondeo starting oddness

What's your views on this?

Changed the clutch DMF and slave on my family car mondeo 1.8 Tdci Lynx engine and now the fooker some times struggles to start. I picked the car up drove it stopped it started it basically used it like I would normally do. When I was getting the car washed it took a little longer to start when I had to move it forward, when it was parked getting dried and hoovered it didn't start at all it would start badly and click loudly like the bottom end had gone. It was push started fine as the battery went flat. I drove it home and it was perfect again. Got home and I went to start it again where the starter was clicking and doing that clicking and tapping loudly thing again then it cuts out. Anyway the battery went completely flat and I couldnt even jump start it again. Called AA out and they got it started after using their van and jump starter. The battery has charged fine and it starts ok too. the mechanic and aa guy said its pointing towards the starter motors .

What do you think?

Has it got a good earth. Has the earth lead tight. My dad had a xtype jag which did a similar thing when he had a new clutch in it and the garage forgot to tighten the earth lead. It would start fine sometimes then tother times it wouldnt start at all.

You could try a jump lead from the earth terminal to the engine to see if that helps it start.

when DMF's start to go, they can sometimes fuck the starter with lots of debris, see it a few times now, but as Glenn said - make sure cables are tight
