Default mondeo mk3 tdci wont start after running

Hi, can someone help please, got a 54 plate Mondeo 2 ltr tdci engine blew so put in engine out of a 2006 model, put on my old turbo, vacuum type, put in my old cam sensor and flywheel sensor plus fuel rail pressure switch, new fuel filter, cleaned egr valve and working ok. The problem is struggles to start, when it runs, runs perfect, drove it approximately 40 miles no problems, no fault codes showing but when I stop the engine just will not start. It appears to only start when engine is cold although does try to start when warm but never catches.

The fuel pump and injectors are the ones out of the new engine they have not been disturbed at all. We seem to have good fuel rail pressure when running at about 3000 rpm its up to about 15000 psi but just at a loss as just why it won't keep running.

Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.

Default warm start

do leak off check at injectors as a base starting point plus the pipework...you could substitute your old ones if known to be good-need coded though-but if you have technology to read the rail pressure you can probably do this

If you havnt coded new injectors to the car then this will be the problem. You can either swap your old injectors to new engine ( but must stay in same cylinder removed from) if you cant recode or simply code the new injectors to the car.

Default coding

you can get the ford vcds package online around Ł20 ish you can code with this

in reality if you use the injectors you know to be good in the correct order[as previous] it should be fine
leak off is when running-if it returns too much its furbar, should all be even within given tolerance[do into 4 wee jars at same time-any difference becomes obvious

Default cranking

shouldnt be hard to start at all-few seconds and should splutter into life providing fuel pump good, filter full-no leaks etc
you have an issue somewhere...

Default Update

Hi, got a hand primer of a Peugeot pulled fuel up into filter, then cranked over on the key with fuel return off into a tin no bubbles or debris. Reconnected return pipe turned it over to try and start It was trying to fire but didn't catch. Had the jump leads on to another car to keep voltage up but still wouldn't fire even though it was puffing some smoke out of exhaust. Swapped cam sensor for a grey one just in hope but no luck. Plugged in fault code reader and it came up with the code P0251 - injection pump fuel metering control A malfunction (cam/rotor/injection). I also checked live data when cranking and fuel pressure was up to 5600 ish psi. Any ideas how we could get this running?
Many thanks

near your fuel filter there is a red tagged return pipe that connects to the main return to the tank, you need to drag the fuel through from the return, once there is plenty of diesel coming out of the pipe your system is bled.

bottom right, disconnect the red connector and drag fuel from the black plastic pipe, you may need to adapt something to get a good fit and seal, when loadsa diesel comes through you should be fine, if of course your only fault is a big gulp of air in the system.

not since it was running last it did start on key when cold but not when warm some one said it needed original injectors to match up with ECU so swapped in right order so did that, didn't want to damage cam chain by towing

I would scrap it and cut your losses, sounds a uneconomical repair.
