Time too Grow up so have decided its time for a Chigwell tractor, trouble is I'm looking at 55-58 platers ideally for 10k but most are 100k+ miler's...
Is it really worth worrying about higher mileage with these motors?
Anyone got or had one,in this age range?
Is there a preferred build date/model type to go for?
I know tax is worse than my ST but hoping I might save in fuel..lol...
Found a couple examples I thought looked good..
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAND-ROVER...item1c4de79153

Op's/input much appreciated

There a nice thing to drive...
There a A**e to work on... Awful awful things...
Everything is seized up or breaks...
Listen for suspension knocking
Normally front lower arms, drop links front and back
Wheel bearings are fun to do...
On the Tdv6's, If it don't pull until 2000 rpm it'll need egrs replacing or blanking, upto late 2005's can be blanked with no dash lights appearing...
Front and rear belts can be done without having the body off...
If it needs a turbo it's body off time lol...
My old chap has one and I hate working on it...

Brother works for autoglass he was chatting to guy at land rover who had the body off one to change a plastic water pipe at the back of the engine! 4500 to do!! He said the guy laughed and said stay away from them.
toy'd up=more to go wrong. Friend bought a brand new HSE in 2007, within two days it wouldn't start, back to Land Rover. Since then: Transmission, air suspension, rear tailgate have all failed and been replaced, not cheap.
They had a fleet of them at a car hire workshops I used to work for. I remember when a turbo went on one we were like how we gonna that! Then my boss phoned his mate at land rover who said u need to remove the entire body from the chassis to change the turbo!!!! I thought he was joking, nope he was telling truth!!!! When we first had to do a clutch on one it took 5 of us to lift the box out even with a hydraulic transmission jack. The things were constantly going wrong from airbag suspension problems to electrical faults and were always coming back on recovery trucks :-(
