I do like the Gaz Golds but if I bought a set I would be looking to paint/lacquer the bodies to prevent corrosion of them in addition to greasing up the threads and wrapping them in tape (the threads can corrode/seize if they are not greased and kept clean).

Your other choice is Leda but they are very expensive for what they are IMO.

I didn't think Gaz golds have ever been the dogs. Leda are far superior and worth every penny.

Leda are great when they are not leaking (2 of mine are leaking after only 3,000 miles (they also look brand new (bar being completely decorated in damper oil). There is evidence to suggest that they can be prone to leaking as well. Let us not forget that Gaz and Leda were once the same company .

When they were on song Ledas are great I admit.

Not really the same company but yeah Dave is working at Gaz now. What leda do offer is a bespoke unit built and valved to your cars spec and usage. I had a pair of Gaz on the rear of my focus which lasted 4 days before one popped a seal. They also were a generic unit, not tailored to my needs. Then again 2 Gaz were a quarter of the price of 1 Leda. Lucky for me I work at Leda now

Yeah the dampers on the shelf they have at the moment are full race spec and are short bodied short stroke. Could be used on road but would need softer springs IMO. They have 3.5 degrees of cambers built into them too.
As for AST I haven't touched one but have only heard good things.

Not quite. Gaz Golds come in two flavours, monotube and twin tube. As said the Monotubes bring many benefits over twin tubes. Ohlins are lovely but super expensive.

They seem to be liked by those who own them.

I was under the impression Gaz were able to do this as well. I need to call you about the Ledas ; how long do Ledas tend to last?

Chas I've Pm'd you. They will last a long time if specced and used correctly and repaired and serviced when required.
