Default fabrication for s1 4x4 cosworth conversion?

Morning Guys,

whats the going rate for these conversion in terms of fabrication of shell and to have it all transferred over etc and built back up? So I would supply a series 1 escort rs turbo and a 4x4 sierra cosworth to the fabricator/builder. I would love to do more myself, but with a young family time is premium unfortunately.

I'm based in west London heathrow area, so who would be closest for the work and anyone got any recommendations for people skilled in this area close to me?

cheeRS in advance guys

Morning chap

Fellow West London boy know it like the back of my hand

Shell done properly would be best part of 5k I'd say, and then it's labour to build the car. If it were me I'd reckon on getting through Ł10k minimum and that's supplying everything needed.

And there's no-one round there I know who'd do it either.

Cheers for the replies guys, I know odd kids jano does them but he still a little far from me. I guess I could put the interior of it back together but would need all running gear side fabrication paint work. I think Ł2500 to fabricate the shell was advised to me, that sound about right ?

.

I've done my own mate, i'm not a mechanic or any thing just a telephone engineer by trade but it's taken me ages (family/work etc) it is a shit load of work and really depends a lot on the state of the shell to begin with and what your end vision of the car is, mine was in really good condition and only needed to change the minor panelling.

Like MrS1 said, 5k, in my eyes that would get you a rolling shell not painted.

I've been asked to do one by a friend of a friend just to a rolling shell state and 5k from 2 cars delivered to me and one rolling out with new panels replaced etc if required is close to what I had in mind.

Mines in the Project section if you want to take a look.

your right 20k would just get you an average run of the mill car on the road ,if you want to push the boat and build a real nice car,and were paying someone to build it with some nice parts add 10/15 k on that

Think of it this way how long it takes to do the simple things even at say 35k the hourly rate would be cheap.

10k only equals 400 hours at 25 per hour then there is rates on building electric etc etc it all mounts up.

lol I work in the restoration game and I takes more than 400 hours just for the metal work sometimes close to a 1000 hours and beyond. but this is on car worth a lot of money. But that said man hours is still similar whatever car you work on even a old escort. Jigging takes time, fabrication takes time and coverting to rear drive equals time.

Ever spent time removing years of underseal and shit only to find rough repairs.

It really isn't a easy job to do on a budget unless your doing it yourself.

400 plus hours is a proper prep and paint job.

My car is on the cover of Fast Ford this month (January)

All in it cost me Ł21k and i already had a saff to start with.

That was with a mate of mine fabricating the shell and a mates rate paint job.

If I was paying someone to do all the work +VAT then only god knows what it would of set me back

Not really mate, as with most builds it was only suppose to be a toy, but I got over excited and was ploughing money into the car left right and Chelsea.

If you wanted to and I mean really wanted to, you could build one for much less than what I spent, but obviously you probably can imagine what the finished car would be like..... Pretty standard looking with a standard YB.

Which is a bit rubbish
