Interested in this car, owner has told me it has a carb conversion, can anyone enlighten me what that's all about, and how it would effect performance etc?

I was told about the car on another site via PM and got in contact with the owner who sent me the details, just trying to do my homework before I go any further. I'm definitely a novice when iit comes to RST's, and when ii googled it I pretty much got nothing apart from Janspeed Xr3 kits like you said. I think iit needs set up too, so that's another reason I'd like too figure out what exactly I'm dealing with.
Googled the registration too, and nothing came back either.

Looks like a combination of bits on that, I would think its a s1 replica.
That under bonnet picture has come up on here before, it has a xr3 type distribuor on it. (vac advance unit on the side)
Looks liken a s2 water pump and hoses.

Thanks for the info so far, its always good to learn something new!
Its definitely registered as an rs turbo, but in this day and age that could mean anything... any other way I can tell?

I agree, there was one on eBay recently ( the carb top hat that is) unusual for it to be on a genuine s1 RST tho.

looks like a SVE turbo kit which was similar to the turbo technics conversion for carb'd cars...ran about 5 psi.
iifc there was one on here a while back, guy called chrissy turbo or something similar.
pic of the car i had on file, if it is as it looks and is the same car i believe its an XR and not an RS

all the info you require is on seriesoneturbo rog, use the search button mate

Well I can say with a high degree of confidence that it's the same car I've been offered that's pictured above, only it's on a different reg now (s1 rst v5).
Not spoken to the seller yet but since the car is pretty much one of a kind in terms of the carb kit it's highly unlikely it has a twin with the same wheels, and stainless tanks etc etc.
Anyway, not got to ruin this post with trial by internet, I'll ask a few more questions but probably walk away as it's not looking very promising.

if you get an hour or so free rog, nip onto SOT through the link above then view all the other threads that he started. it may have bit more information.
could it be possible that the engine is now in a genuine S1 car/shell ?
what doesn't help though is seeing this shit popping up on ebay quite regularly

KEV 99Y was the only official 'works' xr3i turbo
This reg was however later transferred to the group A S1 RS Turbo that was later campaigned http://www.motorsportauctions.com/ca...-RS-TURBO.html
This car may well have been 'rung' in the same way

I've registered on the S1 site and replied to that thread, I was going to pm the person that did the work, but I see he hasn't been on there since April so probably pointless to expect a reply.
The owner got back to me and said he was 'shocked', since it's not my problem I'll leave him to deal with it and see what/if he comes back with. Apparently he was going to contact the person he bought it from.
*edited to add that I don't think it has just been an engine swap, the pics I have of the engine bay, every single detail is the same, it's too much of a coincidence, oh and it does seem to have 16i seats in it, which would tally up with the description in the eBay link.

I agree which is why I posted the link, sounds well dodgy to me, shame as its an interesting thing
That is not an S1 shell. The battery tray is at an angle in the picture. The washer bottle would be down in the passenger wheel arch. The VIN plate rivets appear to be black whereas they would have been silver.
Looks like it's time to walk away.
Cheers, John

Thanks, I wasn't exactly sure how to tell the difference via the engine bay, but I was aware they had some subtle differences, clears that up!
Agree with you, taken a possibly unique/rare car and inadvertently ruined it by giving it an rst ID lol

thats what i was thinking earlier on, its a different way to look at it but ignore the V5 (as it obviously been swapped) and concentrate on what the car could be itself

I've spoken to the "old" owner of B172 PRE and the seller of B638 BML, I'm not going to waste any more time with this car as frankly I can't trust someone on their word at the other end of the country.
To me both cars are identical, unless I ever get a photo of them parked next to each other I smell shite!
History is interesting, but for the money it's going for I could have a genuine average-ish rs turbo that doesn't need much work, I'll let someone else take the risk.
