gold passivate on suspension bolts.
As per title. How many folks have had their original blue coated bolts zinc plated and gold passivated? Has anyone ever had a problem with them snapping due to brittleness caused by the process?
I am tidying up my suspension and have considered getting it done but the Sierra RS workshop manual says "mechanical coating only" which rules out any plating.

hi I did all my bolts on both cars Sierra Cosworth 2wd and 4x4 from suspension to drivetrain most of them were original blue bolts and now gold zinc plated.
No problems whatsoever. It's true that they get a little weaker after the process but not that much.

Wow!!! that looks like brand new!
Cheers. I planned to give the original bolt a new lease on life so ratings should be correct. I was thinking the torx bolts for the cv joints on the rear axle are best left alone probably.
Did you do the power steering pipes too? They look nice.

Yeah leave the cv joint bolts unless you can find new ones.
Make sure you take off all the blue coating before you send them for zinc, you'll get a better finish.
Power steering pipes were also done

I just had a nosey on Google. Long story short I need to be sure the electroplaters know what they are doing and get the high tensile parts in the hot oven immediately to bake the hydrogen out before it can do any harm.
