Default major problem

hi. i have some big troubles with my st170. iv swapped the flywheel and clutch for a TTV solid flywheel with a standard fit 230mm clutch. fitted it all up and the starter was just clicking and battery earth lead started smoking. first assumed a bad earth but i fitted gearbox earth and run a jump lead as a temp earth but still same. long story short the engine is locked solid. it will not turn with a spanner on the crank or turning wheel in gear. iv removed starter in case this is jammed and its not that. the clutch is disengaging as when i push it in the wheel will turn while in gear but somehow the flywheel must be locked or jammed. just looking for ideas before box comes back off?

the flywheel bolts are shorter to accomodate solid flywheel but im worried they could be too long? is this possible. i checked and double checked that the stick out lenght of bolt was same as on dual mass so it would not go too far into crank. im lost for ideas

thanks

also the engine was turning when i tightend flywheel bols and i had to lock it to torque up so i think i can eliminate this but im still doubting myself even though im sure the bolts are not too long.

Can you loosen the gear box bolts and move the box back. It sounds like it could be the box to me.

could it be locked in gear? did you remove the cables properly or pull them out of the adjusters at the gearbox end?

yeah sorry it would i didnt read your post properly, yeah either way you are going to have to take box back out unfortunatly just strange that it turns with clutch pressed but not without, and you say the flywheel turned prior to the clutch being fitted so the fault has to lie with the clutch itself. is it the correct clutch for the flywheel?

Iv been thinking this but would it cause this problem? I put it on as it says trans side but I didn't get the alignment right. I took it back off and reset the centre tool so maybe I stupidly put it back on second time the wrong way.

i know its different engine/box combo but my mate put a mondeo friction plate in the wrong way round and the box would not fully bolt up to the engine so it may well be in the wrong way round if yours is locked up with box fitted
