Default Value of a Focus RS Mk1 that's CAT D

I've been offered a FRS as a swap on a car i'm selling. I'm tempted by it, always quite liked the Focus RS. I wouldn't have it long term, probably a few months and look to shift it on. I really fancy a supercharged M3 next. I don't want to take it and find out it's a ball ache to shift it. My current car is up for 8.5k.

The thing that worries me and makes it hard to price up is that it's CAT D. It has done 60k on a 03 plate. It's supposed to be mint condition, has just been repaired and fully re-sprayed. Spec seems good, have been told it's 370bhp on a hybrid turbo, fancy manifold, SS exhaust, Piper cams, front mount. Also has coilovers and adjustable arb.

What sort of money is it worth?

Depends on how bad the damage was, how well it's been repaired but if it was minor and is as good as you say I would guess at more than Ł5k but certainly not Ł8.5k, probably about Ł6.5k.

I was thinking the same at first but a lot of people still attach a stigma to insurance categorised cars so i went for the lower Ł6.5k value.

General rule of thumb for someone offering you a swap is that the deal is always sweeter for them! No way this is worth Ł8.5k as said above.

look at the price of a straight one of similar spec/condition, then knock 1/3 0ff and youll be in the ball park, its not just the price its the hassle of selling it on as a lot of people wont touch write offs

As it was supposed to be a good spec (bloke said it's 370bhp) I was thinking it might be worth more which is another thing that was making it hard to value. I thought the mods may push the value up.

To be fair, my car is advertised for 8.5k but it doesn't make it worth that much either.

Like you guys say, it's the hassle as much as anything else when I try and sell it on.
