You don't need to take an Insurance cert to get tax at a P.O.
That stopped last year.

From DVLA;
At the Post Office

Go to your local Post Office. You'll need to take:
  • completed V11 reminder (or your V5C)
  • MOT test certificate if required (must be valid when the tax disc starts)
  • the payment shown on the reminder

Not true, a couple of years ago I taxed a car that I just bought at the post office with just the green new keeper slip from the v5, the mot and a day insurance policy!

Exactly "a couple of years ago" things have changed since then and are about to change again in the next 2months.

Apart from not needing to show an insurance certificate, what has changed since then?

Taxed my new bike last week with JUST the new keeper half of the log book, she said she didn't need to see any other documents. Was surprisingly pain free.
