Cosworth 4wd ancillaries vs 2wd ancillaries?

Default Cosworth 4wd ancillaries vs 2wd ancillaries?

Been scratching my head while sorting out my engine build, I have a Cosworth 2wd red top 205 block engine to go in an escort cosworth shell.

I basically have the engine and manifolds, thats it. So no wiring loom, no water pump, no PAS pump no thermostat, no radiators and no intercooler etc etc

What im wondering is which ancillaries should i use? 2wd or 4x4? i assume the 4x4 radiator stuff will provide better cooling or am i wrong?

I dont want to mix and match unless there is a good reason to in terms of performance as i will have to mix and match hoses too.

So what should i do? 4x4 ancillaries or 2wd?

Some of the 4x4 stuff is better , If its a road car I would use as much original parts as possible . 4x4 stat is beeter I believe the 4x4 intercoolers should be larger than 2wd.

Use what works I guess but I personally would rather original parts /fitment.

are you going 2wd or 4wd
if 4wd you will have to use some of the 4wd components-and should really use a 200 block
if rwd anything that fits will do-if going stage 3 and above the smallest i/c would be a 4wd but used rs500 copies are cheap enough
some of the water hoses are different if using a swirl pot in front of block
a good fast road cossie is stage 1 on standard injs etc-any more than that is really overkill for the road/pocket imho
to do the basic job anything from level1/6/8 will do but the better the ecu/later the more functions that can be added
standard boost is very low[perhaps a bit slow]-my saph cossie runs this,and its night and day to my stage 3 3dr

Are the radiators not the same?

The 4x4 intercooler is 25% larger, so this would be beneficial, depending on what your planning on doing tune wise?

The cooling system improvements were in the head itself, as well as a revised different.

I would use the late 4x4 saff stuff.
I have full 4x4 everything !!!! in my 3 door .

I think the multi groove belt is better as it's modern and uses a automatic tensioner.
One belt for crank , water , pas , alt .
The tensioner is the same as early zetec ones .


The early setup uses v belts which are old and look shit lol.

It also puts pas pump and alternator on the same side all tucked up together .
Leaving more room on the other side to get hoses, dizzy , mounts etc

Use 4x4 thermostat and water pump as it has better flow around the cylinder head.

As for alternator/powersteering..... If you're not fitting aircon, put powersteering pump under inlet and this allows you to fit drop bracket and move alternator away from heat of turbo.

if i was building to a very high performance target i would want the best of stuff
ie 200 block/head etc but if on a budget the cheaper/easier to get stuff does the job and still gets the power up to a point

thanks for the reply's, its realy helpful as this is my first yb so i dont want to waste money by buying the wrong parts.

Well as my engine is going into a group n escort cosworth shell, the car wont be original so concourse/originality isn't my main concern, I just want a reliable engine

Ive done some research on the stat and i have the older 2bolt style thermostat so i dont think i can fit a 4x4 stat as thats 2 bolt?

I will be going 2wd

Water hoses are one of my main concerns as I will eventually be buying a samco kit so idealy id like to either buy a 2wd kit or a 4x4, I dont want to have to buy individual hoses.

Im not after big bhp id like to see between 300-400 and just enjoy it and get it dialed in sweet.

yes i thought the 4x4 intercooler would be larger I just needed confirmation, are the fittings on both coolers the same?

Can i fit a 4x4 stat on a 2wd head as ive noticed my thermostat is 2bolts not 3.

Wont be having aircon and have considered a drop bracket, are they realy that beneficial?
