what are the benefits of having these I know they are to separate the oil and vapour but on all the ones I have there has been oil in the metering head so I run to atmos so what difference is there by running a bailey to atmos as opposed to the standard setup to atmos

 

The CVH is a very heavy breathing engine. As you up the boost, the crankcase pressure tends to increase and ends up blowing the oil cap off or the dipstick out. Not ideal.

An aftermarket breather allows you to safely increase boost without worry of high crankcase pressures.

I personally opted for a spec-r breather as it has a smaller footprint:

Best on the market is the AS item, also comes in satin black for the standard look. No visual welds as the spec-r item.

 

Agreed, if I were buying brad new now I would buy te AS item

I know what they are for but would like to know what the difference is between having one and running it to atmos because it not really much different from say just using a hose and normal breather

 

I tried using the normal breather pot but it was to restrictive, kept blowing the oil cap off (pattern part).

I originally intended to run just a filter off the rocker cover. This just drips oil everywhere and for EFi you need a breather takeoff for the idle.

Like I say, there's nothing wrong with the original system until you run in to breathing issues. The aftermarket breathers give you the option of venting to atmosphere without any of the oily mess of just a filter on the rocker cover.
