Car was a standard MK2 to start with.

Fitted ST bumpers and skirts. Smoothed them a bit and removed the side repeaters, door strips, antenna, wiper on the back and all badges. Smoothed the trunk also. Custom made rear lights and morette headlights.

Put it on lower suspension 60 front and 50 back, Keskin wheels 8,5x17 on the front and 10x17 on the back with Goodyear tires 215/40/17 and 245/35/17.

And some other small things, hidden exhaust, Sparco fuel cap, tinted windows, other steering wheel and seats. Rear arches rolled out to make the wheels fit.

Sadly now sold for a while.

Here's mine, now in the scapyard in the sky. Had a cat back and induction kit, loved the noise.

I'm hoping the thread doesn't go downhill, less is more with them. They unfortunately attract some really shit mods for some reason.

I'm glad I owned one, I'd always fancied one. They're no sports car but it got down the road well enough. IMHO the least they need is a good exhaust and filter. Personally back to back I prefer how it handled to the mrs st170, that can feel nervous at first, certainly on my work thrash.....er, commute it would hold more corner speed. No quicker point to point, mostly let down by its lack of braking capability.

Loved every part of owning one except for the Mondeo image. As one guy that's not really into cars said " sounds nice but it's still a Mondeo"

ive had quite a few mk2 mondeo's and never had any mither with them. I even had a 2000 W reg ex Staffordshire police spec zetec v6 that had a rev limit of 7500 rpm!!! And a calibrated 140mph clock instead of the normal 150 clock. It was surprisingly quick.

Nowhere near. Poles apart IMHO. Even if you had the very latest reg of a mk2 it's a 13/14 yr old car but it's 22 year old technology underneath. Not like there were massive changes between mk1 and mk2. It's not like it's bad it's just you can tell things had moved on leaps and bounds.

It is subjective of course. Obviously the higher spec ones drive nicer. A nice mk2 st24/st200 while still dated would be a nicer cruiser against a 1.8 poverty spec mk3. The higher spec mk3 are way above a mk2 otherwise. Just shop about as there are some nails about, as with any high volume car.

Sold my mk2 2.0 litre Si nearly 2 years ago and it was a brilliant car, not the quickest but still fairly nippy and cruised well at 80-85 on motorways, handling was excellent and was very comfortable. Would recommend one to anybody considering buying one.

the mk2 mondeo had two types of rear sway bars with different shackle pins fitted. The ones on the 99 onwards chassis were a load better than the early mk2 (like the focus ones) Only the ST200 had better wishbones and front subframe from a cougar with horizontal bushes like a mk3 mondeo.
I found the mk1/2 mondeo very sensitive to what wheels had been fitted. The basic 14" wheels fitted to an early lx made them feel like a ship. The wheels on the later 99 on cars with the 199 60 15 tyres improved things a lot but still nothing special. The best size IMO was the 16" alloys with the 205 50 16 tyres like the zetec and st24. I felt these gave good handling without the car feeling like a ship or to harsh like the ST200.
But when the mk3 first come out when i was working for ford a basic 1.8 mk3 zetec felt worlds apart.from a mk2 equivalent. Even when i had my old mk3 tdci zetec s that had covered 98k felt a load better than my mk2's. And again a mk4 mondeo is a load better than a mk3.

Going back to 2007 when I had mine but it was a lovely car. Had a bluefin, k&n cone filter and blueflame cat back on it and it sounded the tits. The recaros were lovely. Always wanted to lower it but never dared as the bolt that goes through the hub was prone to snapping and was a pig to drill out so just clear side repeaters and red callipers. Deffo needed bigger front brakes they were dangerous!!
