parade laps?
I'm sure if you ask those taking part in such laps they were pleased as punch but for those who just want track action I can see your your point, thought parade laps were scrapped after the rsoc's almighty balls up at ND a couple of years back anyway but guess not

A number of people moaning on RSOC about lack of parade lap for S1s 30th anniversary at National day this year. The committee appears to be happy to use accident as excuse to not have any more at ND which I personally think is a shame as I've enjoyed them in the past.
I can understand that they are not to everyone's taste but you can always go and have a coffee or something in the time it takes for a parade lap.
Cheers, John

exactly John as I have taken part in a few over the years and for some its the only time they will ever get to experience the feeling of driving on a race track even if at a limited speed.

well that was bad i agree but if the guy spun into a barrier and no other cars were hit now that would be good value for your money.
if i was offered a chance at being in a parade lap id say no. they are boring to watch and i guess very boring to be part of. on a track day when your doing a slow warm up lap thats boring too.
at rs combe there was a couple of mondeos in the line up that looked like standard 1.8lx models. i could drive to morrisons and see that lol
Doesn't interest me at all either. If I wanted to watch cars drive in circles at 20mph I'd go sit by the side of the m25. As said though plenty of other stuff to see at shows while it's on!
Insurance is the problem as you are on track and so need track cover for YOUR insurance to cover you and we all know that no one has that and so as you can't trust the drivers to do as they are told ( and yes I got all together before said parade lap and told them the score) parade laps are a no go
That's the bottom line
Think they should be banned, if you want to drive around track, do a track day, don't try and be a hero on a parade lap,
If you want to show your car off, leave it in the car park and show it to people who want to look at it, don't force it
That's my opinion

I don't track mine because I'm not good enough, simple really but at least I'm honest.
I don't mind if they're interesting cars, unlike the mk1 frs one. Nothing more boring than a shit load of cars all the same colour surely?!? Only thing differentiating some were wheels and ride height

Been a few years since I went to any show but didn't the parade laps happen around dinner time?
Might just be an idea if you don't want to watch to go chow down on some lunch.
However, always has been and always will be tossers that hang back and floor it, like we've never seen an RS at full tilt before, gives drivers that wouldn't normally venture onto the tracks a sight of them and a small taste of how the shiny shed they are driving should be driven should the moisturiser and cloths ever leave their hands, in short dull and boring like a night on the rsoc forum

I did the S1 20th parade lap 10 years ago and enjoyed it.
But to watch i a agree they are boring, But each to their own and all that.
I find Concourse cars boring as hell, So i don't pay attention to them. Simples

Do try and be factual before you discredit others unfairly
The Parade Laps work at Combes and do seem part of the day just as much as the drifting, would Donington allow drifting, I think not
Not everyone wants to do a track session but this gives them chance to drive on a Circuit.

We stopped doing them at Ford Fair as they're a pain to organise, and boring for spectators. When track time is in high demand it seem mad to 'waste' the session on a parade lap.
I agree Pete, I've got no interest in doing track days tbh but it is nice to be part of and drive on a track, but they are boring to watch. Problem is there's always one who thinks he's on a track day as I found out lol
Sorry if it opens some wounds but the incident everyone's talking about, was it the grey saph rear ending the white slap bang in front of the grandstand?
Just curious, I've not been to a show for years.
