2014 Pikes Peak: Guy Martin
For this year's race, a new challenge has been set: to go under the 9:52:819 course record (bikes). In order to achieve this goal Guy Martin has customised his bike and, with Metzeler support, is ready to take on Pikes Peak in America. Check out this sneak peak photo gallery, and don’t miss the 2014 event this Sunday!

His autobiography is well worth reading, its written just like him chatting away as he does.

Got it off eBay for a tenner, read the whole book in one day, its mint.
I did proper laugh at this.

Ok, so I must have spent 15 years pretty high on the autism spectrum, I have a condition called charcot-marie-tooth which is NOT autism. You can not diagnose any disease based upon one singal pointer, at least thast why consultant neurosurgeon tells me
there are many many conditions which cause toe walking, not just autism!

***Book spoiler***
He mentions in the book that he has been diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome which is a form of Autism.
Also mentions the Volvo in the book too.

here is a pic of my 300bhp turbo suzuki fighter 1 0ff martek built cost Ł24k to build
the bike is going down to streetfighter magazine in a couple of weeks to do a photo shoot and will be in there magazine
Here is my pride and joy, suzuki gsxr turbo. there are many trick bitz on this bike and has been an on going project for 4 years and have finally got to the end with the help from the big cc lads shaun and lynnand and mark walker from martek for building the bike. This bike cost over 24k to build and is very fast and sounds awsome and a real head turner, nothing on this bike is standard its all hand made.
This bike is fuel injected.
Brembo mono block brakes, brembo hydrolic clutch, ohnlins suspention (fully adjustable race spec), adjustable geometry frame and fork settings with oval inserts, plenum chamber built into the frame, harris tripple clamps, marchesini magnesium wheels, trick swing arm, tal dump and waist gate, lock up clutch from usa, gp reverse gear -box, 2 stage boost control, kms fuel management, very lite bike even every nut and bolt on the bike that could be changed is titanium, retro paint job and very fast this bike is basicly a faster gp bike road legal..
this bike is going to up for sale soon so open to any offers
also any ideas of where would be the best place to put it up for sale

You're absolutely right you can't diagnose just on the basis of one symptom, but it is a fact that there is a strong correlation between those on the spectrum and toe walking - not that I'm saying there's anything wrong with being on the spectrum anyway. Guy's general behaviour and views on the world would also strongly point to this (take excerpt regarding gyms above!) - again nothing wrong with it and more power to him for achieving what he has anyway.
He may have Asperger's syndrome, but I am sick and tired of everybody trying to put people with disability down, or saying well done he has done all of this despite having a disability. To him he is just him, doing what he wants to get on in life and enjoy his life, there will be things holding him back but he will work around them.
Professionals are usually the worst for this, writing/saying comments in such a condescending manor and wording things like they have done well despite x y and z going against them - Rather than just saying well done youve done well for yourself, usually because it gives there ego's a boost rather than being a genuine comment.
A little background on me, I was diagnosed with Charcot Marie Tooth syndrome / disease call it what you will at 15, I have 2 brothers with Mucopolysacchride 3 (Sanfilippo) and helped to care for them growing up. Was a runner up in Gtr Manchester Young Citizen of the year 1998 and I now run a very small company and work rediculous hours to keep a roof over my head and every time I meet professionals I get the same attitude you have, trying to big up your own ego with a diagnosis and saying he has done well for himself. I was misdiagnosed because of a small minded doctor who only took the one element (toe walking) into consideration because of a strong correlation... it wasnt until one of the top orthopeadic surgeons in the uk took a look at the bigger picture and questioned everything that had gone before diagnosis wise form some of the top othopeadic consultants that a true diagnosis occured.
GM leading his class but a way off the other bikes.

The pics that have been floating about on Facebook & Twitter seem to have camera crews and sound boom/mics on them filming him 'sorting out the bike chief' at the Pikes Peak so hopefully there will be a programme about it all.
Hope so!
