Default headlight bulb replacement

that old nutshell again ! had my first induction today on trying to replace the front headlight bulb passenger side on a mk1 as ive read since this is a bitch of a job anyway carried it out the first problem is getting the back cover off! i completed the work blind then it came to the very last detail putting the cover back on! im stumped and dont want to take off all the battery as will lose my code apart from everything else.....can i saw off lugs of the cover as this seems the sticking point in trying to re-position the cover back in place do i really need them? will cover still be secure if i whip them off and just use the clip bar ? or will it still not fit leaving me to buy another cover or just fall off somewhere being not secured any longer at the top ?

Just take the headlight out. One or two bolts at the top and one underneath. 2 minutes and it's out. Don't go cutting g anything as if it doesn't seal properly it will fill up with damp.

Look it up on YouTube, you need to undo the arch liner to access a hidden bolt and remove the lamp. 10 minute job as opposed to the hour pissing about trying to get those fucking covers back on.

I've never removed an arch liner. Just reach you hand up under the front bumper and you'll be able to feel the bolt.

You just undo the bolts on the leading edge for access, you don't need to remove the whole liner.
