Default 1987 Series 2 ERST Project

Hi Guys, first post on here! Recently I have purchased a radiant red 1987 Escort RS Turbo. Looking to restore her to her former glory. At first glance the first few problems/niggles noticed were:

Dented bonnet
Bonnet release mechanism not working
Rusty rotten front panel
Wings require replacing
Drivers side sill needs replacing
Boot struts knackered
Modified bumper/radiator grill cut out
Temperature gauge not working.
Half the heater box missing
Clock cover snapped
clock surround clips broken.

Nothing too major at the minute. Pics of current state to follow.

It isn't too bad really. Thought I'd sort out the little niggles and replace a few parts before she gets shipped off to the body Shop for repairs and respray in July.

Yeah it isn't too bad to be honest. Looks like its been kept on a low budget so far. Some of the wiring is poor and the battery clamp has been replaced by a block of wood and accompanying rag. this will all be sorted eventually.

Yeah the chrome lettering will be off and replaced by the standard sticker.

Yeah I will eventually get a set. I'm waiting for the body shop to have a slot available so I can take the car there. I don't have a garage Need a new house.

While I'm waiting I'm just sorting a few problems out and giving it a service. The whole cooling system needed an overhaul also. The fan and temperature gauge wasn't working. I've replaced the thermostat, fan switch and fuses. I know the temp gauge works but its connected to a small sender within the top right radiator hose. Is this correct? I have replaced that sensor anyway. I also have a bigger one but not sure where it goes, front of block?? Also does the gauge get connected here instead?

I've replaced the bonnet now the whole mechanism/cable. The 90 spec bumper has also turned up.

Appreciate the help chaps!

I will take some pictures on Friday and fit the remaining parts.

temp gauge sender unit goes into head next to the exhaust manifold of stat hosing.

If you are looking for a full set of red samcos with near minimum use speak to me via pm.

thanks Mark,

PM Sent.

I think I've found the hole for it however no sensor is fitted which is strange. I have the new one anyway. Should coolant leak if there is no sensor. I'll take a picture of it tonight.

All parts fitted so far, pictures to follow, car is still running like a dog at the moment though. Will check it out this weekend.
