all good choices, but what are the pitfalls of buying a small german car when things go wrong with it?

the fiesta i can fix with a spanner, with ze germans i feel i'd need a several degrees in astrophysics to start with

 

Stick with what you know and go fiesta. Ticks all the boxes and Ł40 road fund licence.

Not a clue mate. I barely know trim levels on the odd ford let alone anything else.

 

Based on that criteria Id say a 5 door Fiesta tdci with air con would just about cover it

 

don't they still do spouse passes....... saves on wheel replacement

2 guys at work had tdci new shpe fiesta's, one 1.4 and one 1.6

the 1.6 got better fuel economy and the 1.4 was totally gutless, but cheaper to tax...

so if you must, go for the 1.6

the guy that had the 1.4 traded it in for a 1.0l ecosboost petrol, but got the 100bhp version and is seeing 45mpg... hes not impressed with that one either as its not doing the claimed 60mpg.
but then, he is a proper tight cunt, no kids and thinks a slap up meal is a toby cavery...

imo get a bmw 335d and get stu to remap it.

love my renault megane 1.5 td. 45-50 mph normal driving for me which is bezzing about. and 50-70 on motorway. little bigger than a fiesta but our lass drives mine and loves it. may not be so cheap but i have done most of the work to it so far and im no mecanic. just a bit fiddly as it seems it was designed by a computer who thought cramming everything into the engine bay was actually a game of tetris.

If you don't have badge snobbery then my wife has got a Hyundai i20, 1.4 diesel, 65mpg, Ł30 a year tax, 5 year unlimited mileage warranty etc. It's got 4x elec windows, powerfold mirrors, air con, ipod socket, alloy wheels etc.

Only let down is that the interior feels a little cheap but for the money you will pay on the second hand market we couldn't beat it for value for money.

 

Had a few various hyundai's from work. Like you say cheap interiors but over all not a bad motor. Would well have one over a vauxhaul.

 

I just got my first ever Vauxhall as a company car.a 2010 2.0 cdti insignia.ive got to say im quite impressed with the firmness of the handling and sharpness of the steering for what is quite a big car. the fuel economies much better than the saab 9-5 it replaced. similar sized engine gives 200 miles to Ł30 of diesel compared to 150 miles in the saab....

 

it depends really, i've seen an 07 plate fiesta on auto trader for Ł1700 (bit it's got 160k on the clock) so i don't want to spend money just for the sake of it, but if i can get a nice motor for less than Ł2500 i'll be happy with that

fiesta sized means just that, easy to park, good on fuel, don't need to worry about where we leave it etc

Recently bought a new 2014 Fiesta zs tdci 1.6 and its brilliant (especially on fuel). It used two complete tanks of diesel to get from Northern Ireland to Turin in Northern Italy, via Scotland, England, Belgium (inc a 100km scenic route in Belgium) and France. Cost Ł49 to fill it to the neck and its only Ł20 a year to tax. My saff is Ł123.75 for 6 months

Its real comfy and well specced. Also my insurance has halved (vs the cossie). Would defo recommend one to anyone!!

 

Dojj and his wife arnt retired yet and Dojj doesnt wear a flat cap, slippers and smokes a pipe.

 

new car would be nice but with so much metal out there for the money, i don't really want to be forking out the depreciation for someone else in 10 years time
