Default Handbrake Problems Escort RS Turbo S2

I have a headache with the handbrake on my Escort RS. I have just fitted new brake shoes. Simples !

When I re-fitted the drum it turned ok, but when you apply the handbrake it then sticks (alot). So much so that you cannot turn the drum at all (even with a big lever)

It is NOT the self adjuster (it is free and working ok), and the cable is fine. I have repeated the above several times (drum off, turns ok, handbrake on, sticks)
I have checked all the springs and other bits and they are fitted correctly.

The handbrake adjuster (under the car) has been freed right off. Something is just not right !

I am completely baffled folks !

Are you sure the cable is ok, have you tried operating the cable with the shoes disconnected?

Whereabouts are you?
