Default Poorly R/W Saph Cosworth

I just purchased 1990 sapphire cosworth. The car hasnt been run for ten years till two months ago. When i purchased it it ticked over fine just noisy tappets. The seller advised me the map sensor needed to be changed as it was running with his other saph's one in at the time as the current one the car would cut out straight away. So i purchased a 3bar map sensor from ebay and yes it runs but it seems to go go too 2000rpm down to below 900rpm. It continues to do this for twenty seconds or so then stalls everytime. If i give the car a sudden high rev it stalls but if i tease the revs it will increase as normal. If you set off you have to tease the revs and the car litterally kangaroos down the road. Any ideas my old man say plugs need cleaning but will it be just this problem going to clean them tomorrow. Cheers

Is this car chipped? With bigger injectors etc.
Because the standard map sensor is a 2-bar.

If the chip has been taken out, the injectors and 3-bar map sensor are probably wrong for whatever chip they put back - presumably standard?
Open the ecu and see what's inside - maybe take a picture?

What's the number on the injectors? And are they Bosch or Weber injectors?

There's not enough information in your post, i.e. have you had the car serviced and setup after it was sitting for 10 years? It could be 100 different things, like fuel filter, pump, plugs, leads, sensors, wiring, wrong fuelling, bad fuel etc etc etc....

As above there could be more than 1 issue. The idle speed valve is definately worth taking off and cleaning . You need to know the chip spec so get that ecu opened up and take a piccy.
All service items ideally need to be changed after 10 yrs of sitting still.

The car was drove with the guys map sensor to mine and it ran ok and turned over aslo g as you wanted no up and down on the revs or stalling. I fitted the new sensor and it was ok at first then the battery went dead. Now i have got a new battery stared it back up and now this. It had air leaks on the air pipes which i renewed. I shall just post again once i can give you specifics on what the engine is running. Cheers
