I had to open the link a couple of times to make sure it hadn't sent me somewhere wrong, but it appears you genuinely mean a VTR..

I used to have a VTR a few years ago, was far from standard, but with the right mods, it sounded good, wasnt the fastest car on the road, but was getting 50 MPG no matter how I drove it. mods are so cheap now too as they are flooding the market, wish parts for the 170 was as cheap or readily available,
But I wouldn't go back again,

I'd prefer a nice GTi over the Citroën equivalent.

vtr saxos are terrible.

personally id get A Mk5 zetec-s fiesta. MUCH more fun. and would beat a vtr in a race, twisties or straights. Everytime.

Plus, their a Lot nicer to drive. a LOT.

a Ford forum and someone wants the biggest boyracer chav mobile of all time. lol a saxo. if theyre done right,, they can look good. but youd always be kicking yourself for not buying the VTS mates one done 130mph in 3rd gear. That was a fast saxo.

This thread is hilerious.

The only way your getting 50mpg from a vtr is pushing it of a cliff

As much as I love zetec s fiestas. A Saxo will leave it standing in a straight line and round corners. And in the breaking department.

And 130 in third gear. Leave the bs out mate.

As above, even a VTR would leave a ZS for shit. This might be a Ford forum but we're not all blinkered and can accept what is the better car.

Worst driving position and pedals in a car ever! Either that or just not designed for anyone over 5ft tall....

well the vtr saxo's that had it out with me never stood a chance. i used to leave my mates old vts up to about 105 then he came by slowly.
as for bs, it is. he said it was 4th not 3rd. would need a lot of power to get that and it wasnt That quick at all.

you must have watched/seen/been in a ropey zs then you must be blinkered in some manner to think a french citroen saxo with pedals too close together (which is asking for trouble really) is a 'better car' than a mk5 fiesta zetec-s.

I know what one id rather own.

I'd rather a VTS, they are good cars (provided you don't crash them cause they'll fold like cardboard) fast for what they are, sorry to say but they will eat zetec s fiestas, a VTS would probably take a standard rs turbo (prefer rs turbos though but that's another discussion). And like someone has already mentioned, nice standard ones are rare now, a future classic no doubt!

The whole VTR v Zetec-S thing, my pal bought a brand new VTR in 97, my other pal had a Fiesta Si 1.6 Zetec, I was driving it one day, and down the country lanes, I was sat on the back bumper of my pals VTR, he couldn't get away, as for which one I'd prefer, drove both a few times, performance wise there wasnt really a lot in it, and I'd have took the Si every time, much better built car, better spec, and a lot nicer to drive

i had a 5door 16v si few years ago. didnt think there was much in it. completely different to a zs though, much heavier, but them wingback seats. theyre so comfortable!

a mate has a vtr with some minor engine mods, like exhaust. and i was stuck to his bumper in 4th and he was going for it. But never got further than a couple of meters.

Vts are quick cars. not a fan of french tbh..... but would take an Ax Gt over one anyday and put the vts engine in that

I drove a vtr years ago. I thought it went well. I hated the pedals though. I was struggling to drive it with my size 12 sausage feet.

You could just take them out? Problem solved! I'd actually quite like one (a VTS), would make a great lane car (got feckin loads of them on my door step luckily!)

Having owned several zetec s and VTRs ( standard and modded ) I can assure you the vtr is much quicker. Maybe your mates can't drive for shit ?

Personally I do prefere the zetec s ( mainly because I actually fit in them) but there's no way around it, vtr is quicker and a vts/gti is a lot quicker ( even with a puma lump in there a vts is quicker )

Have to say, I used a standard, late VTR as a daily for 3 years. Used it mainly to commute from London to Bath twice a week. It returned a measured 47mpg without fail. Did 30,000 miles and the only thing that went wrong was the gearbox got very noisy. It was tired at the end but did well.

Ive got a Mk5 ZS as a daily... It regularly returns mid 40mpg. Its comfy and pretty fun to, and they are sub Ł1000 to buy and easy to maintain! Front lower arm bushes are common to wear as are rear beam bushes and they rust like most old fords.
As for speeds etc, mine will go past vtr's and a vts will judge edge away from me in a straight line, mine is 100% standard... Its all out of puff at 125/130mph.

If you want to BS about a Saxo go do it on their Forum.
130 in 3rd . Mine will do 150 but its got 850bhp. What did it do in 4th 170+ I suppose lets hope it didnt have 5 gears or its a 200mph Saxo .
Wish i was young & had your exageration factor could claim the first 350mph Cossie.

just what I was thinking rod lmao, my r33 only did 126 mph in 3rd and that was hard work to drive due to high gearing with 720 hp, imagine it in a saxo with 100 hp lmfao

must be talking in kmh lol

Get your tongue out of Rods bum.... ...... I made a mistake and stated it was 4th gear NOT THIRD.

I don't like them myself, why would i big them up? > LOL

iv got a mk5 zs thats currently off the road, and even when it was, Vtr's were always left for dust when the opportunity arose .

MUCH better car than the Vtr. in probably every way. Only thing i think the Vtr wins on... is the fact that it has rear disc brakes.

The Vts may be faster than both, but i'd still rather own a fiesta. Such a reliable car, never had 1 single problem with either of the ones iv owned apart from tyres and the obvious servicing parts for good measure.

Owned a zs for nearly 2 years now, and its faultless and so much fun.

Even 130mph in 4th in a Saxo is laughable without a honking engine

They were nice cars the Si's back in the day, looked the part, lovely interiors, drove well, and were nippy enough with the 1.6 Zetec, the one my pal had was on and M plate, was 2 or 3 years old when he bought it, and I'm sure he gave Ł9k+ for it iirc , but we were only 18/19 years old back then, he couldn't afford to insure anything better. That was one of the major selling points for buying a new VTR in those days, you got free insurance for the first year if you were 21 or older.

My brother has owned a 106 gti for years and im sorry but there is no way your anywhere close to it at any speed in a mk5 zs especially at 105mph! In fact every time I have a drive of it I've forgotten how quick it is for what it actually is.

I'll agree a zs is not a bad car to drive, not sure if its as good as a vts/gti, and I'd hardly call them better built. Almost every mk5 fiesta you see still on the road is a completely wanked out rot box

Right vtr's are quicker then standard zetec s's but with a puma engine in you'dbe quicker.

A vts/gti is far quicker then a zetec s and even a puma converted one.

All be it id rather have a zetec s then a vtr, but would rather a GTI then a zetec s.

Build quality on the french cars are shocking so would probably have a puma converted zs out of any of the saxo's

Thats the only thing that kills theses fiestas of is the rot. You dont see mk5 fiestas without rusty arches.
