Default Fan on a van?

My works van is a Nissan Nv200 with the Renault 1.5 diesel (2010). When I start it most of the time the fan comes on and stays on whatever sort of journey it is. It doesn't do it all the time and it is from cold so I it cannot be overheating and when sat it traffic and it is warm outside it goes off. Any ideas what could be causing this? The only other issue I have is first thing on a morning when you start it, it does seem to take an extra second or two to fire up compared to when it warm, is this normal? The oil light stays on for about 4/5 seconds from cold as well.

Cheers for any help.

Just to add it had a new battery 6 months ago and seems to be the correct one and the EGR valve has been cleaned out. Looking at the service history it has had 10/40 in and it should have 5/30 would this cause the oil light to stay a bit longer on start up?

Often fan staying is an indication of a fault ( oddly enough )

ECU's in limp mode will often run the fan permanently.

Have a competent mechanic look at it.

And no, thicker oil like 10/40 would not cause the oil light to stay on longer.

Thanks for the replies.

No air con. Did it first thing the morning then hasn't done it again. It does seem to do it every now and then as if to make sure the fan doesn't seize? Just more often at the moment.
