I had one for 3 years with a cobra exhaust system, decat, intercooler and remap.
Went very well.
Dual mass flywheels are an issue, expensive to fix.
Injectors can be an issue, but not as often as folk would have you believe.

I got told injectors don't go wrong on the 2.2 TDCi.

A lad I know has one and he took me out in it when it was standard and it pulled really well. He said its chipped now and its even faster.

Im sure there the same engine as tranny vans. We have a few in our fleet at work and the engines have been 100% spot on. We have never replaced a TDCi engine in the 5 years ive worked there.

Ive changed a few fuel valves on the fuel pump due to a fuel pressure sensor being faulty.

My mate had one I used to borrow quite often and was great to drive. Bloody good on fuel after a remap as well.

She had issues with hers fuel system wise but after a lot of time and money turned out to be a dirty fuel tank.

Front tyres wear quickly as well.

I've had mine for 6 years now, bought it with 17k on the clock and its now got 140k, never owned a car this long before, love mine. Might have to update before too long but I can't find anything I like as much without spending out quite a bit of cash so might just keep running it for another year or 2.

Watch out for the wheels/tyres on them, the rims rot on the inside edges then the tyres don't seal and leak. This is extremely common, even on nearly new rims, when I bought mine it wasn't even 3 years old and ALL of them were losing pressure. I've literally replaced all of them with brand new ones over the years (which is not cheap) and at the moment all of mine are okay, although last time I had the tyres done I got the tyre bay to file down all the corrosion again on the inside edge of the oldest one. You need to keep checking the pressures all the time, trust me on this, or you WILL have punctures/blowouts. I had 3 on mine, all because of this problem, and I know a lot of other people who it's happened to.

If you're losing pressure in your tyres it won't be faulty valves, it'll be that the tyres aren't sealing properly.

I've had mine 3 years and love it. They pull really nice with just shy of 300 lbft. The 18 inch wheels buckle really easy though - my missus has done 3 on potholes in the year or two.

Also brakes ain't great and some do a swap for asbo focus st front discs and calipers.

All in all though a great car in my opinion.

Also worth looking at the limited edition titanium x with ST kit. This is actually what my one is. It has exactly same engine, ST body kit and sports suspension but has 18 inch 7 spokes instead of the 18 inch multispokes. They made these just prior to launching the ST Tdci and were in effect an early ST. There's a few on eBay.

(Apart from the rare Ink Blue ones)

Performance blue on my old Mondeo against Imperial on a Mk1 Focus RS:

The only other thing that's quite popular to go is the aux belt tensioner whining like a bitch. Mine was done twice in 6 months. And check the rear sub frame bushes as they're common to go.

Rear wheel bearing is a popular one too, but they're only Ł40ish for a replacement on ebay that's a 10 minute replacement.

Had mine on a little remap box thing which made 172bhp / 355lbft on a Passionford RR day..

The injector issue is on the 2.0 TDCi not the 2.2. There very good cars, especially the money there going for these days, hell of a lot of car for the money, the advantage of it being a Mondeo, they depreciate like a stone.

That's a mk4 mate. It's the mk3 2.0 that is bad for it.

The 2.0 mk4 is the engine to have. Or the 2.2. It's the 1.8 that has the issues on the mk4.
