Question How many Cosworths left?

Thought this was quite interesting, in 2013 there were 576 3 Door Sierra Cosworths road registered but only 380 2wd Sapphire Cosworths. The rate at which the 2wd ones are disappearing the really good ones must surely start to appreciate in value soon.
It frustrates me when I see them being sold for peanuts, they are still one hell of a car and I have never grown tired of mine after 18 years.
What do others think?

At the end 90's to the late 2000's,it was large imports quantities of Cosworth from belgium, germany, italy etc. to norway

There was lots for sale, the price was low and to many were abused by young people, who could afford the car but no parts.

Today it is almost impossible to find a good 4wd sierra, so I think the good ones are stored safe in garages.
Along the road you hardley see a sierra or escort anymore.

there are some sierra cupe for sale, they cost a lot. They are rarely at home and often in very good condition

I do not think it's a long time for the price of a sedan is increasing now that so many are damaged or defective

At the rate sapphires are still getting broken they will be the rarest of all cosworths I think. Really good cars get broke up and despite breakers saying the shells live on, they rarely do. Central day was a good example, not many there in comparison to other fords. Iv always said that if I ever sold mine, which I have no plans too, will only sell to someone who will use it and not break.
Out of curiosity how many are left on the data base now?

This from the 'How many left site'?

If so I wouldn't take it as gospel.

On the FSOC there are many models and types of Sierra that are on the road or known to still exist but not MOT'd etc but NOT according to that site.

It's sad but, if someone buys a car its there's to either drive & enjoy, keep as an ornament or break and turn over some cash. Even if your a breaker.

At some point in the future they'll be lots of parts and not enough actual Cosworths. You'll have to start using regular Sapphires, but then the 'normal' Sierra enthusiast will say the exact same thing, which brings us to kit cars, how long before it all levels off and there is just a bunch of Cossie's, standard Sierra's and kit cars made from Sierra's?

I could only get last years figures but I would say there are even fewer now.On a trip from Southampton to Blackpool and back did not see any 3 doors, Sapphires or Escort Cosworths, in fact i cant remember the last time I saw any others when I have been out in mine.
Hopefully will see plenty this weekend at Simply Ford at Beaulieu !

As already mentioned there can't be many! especially judging by central day, was probably the fewest there out of all the other ford models...
and none to go up the strip all day (and make it to the end)
Shame...

Cheers Paul

380 licenced 996 SORN

That was in Q4 of 2013

In the summer Q2 and Q3 look at the balance

Will go up to 600-700 licensed and 500-600 SORN as people bring cars out of storage

Ive been offered 100k but reading your last line ive said I will accept 25k.
Think all the bits might sell for 25/30k its a very trick engine which costs mega bucks but thats my problem . As a complete car its worth jack shite its 25 year old Sierra for heavens sake. Mind you i suppose someone might want a 1000bhp 215mph pile of shite.

My 4wd is untaxed but safely tucked up in the garage. Recon there's still a good few around just not taxed. Mine has been off the road three years riding out the recession as i can't justify running a third car. It will be back on the road at some point though.

According to the stats there's about 1000 on SORN, like yours I guess. 400 licensed. That ratio probably changes in summer. So about 1400 Sapphires left and about twice as many 3-doors

There was quite a few at Simply Ford on Sunday but like you when I am out in mine I never see another one. Where do they go when there is not a show on?

Thats like saying you dont see many 100 year olds walking in the local park go to a oap home & you will find them. There 35 million cars on the road & less than a 1000 are Sapphs so your chances are slim of seeing one outside a Ford show. They are oldtimers now so not really the best for modern motoring so most dont get used on a regular basis.

I suppose this thread is sort of a 'nice to know' but at the same time pretty pointless, it's not like it can be influenced in any way/shape/form.
I don't believe the info on that website is a correct representation, I have tried it for some other cars and it was way off what I would consider to be completely accurate. I have a car in my garage for example, and it was listed as the only one in the UK, and I know that is total bs.

Funny how 4x4 saphs will probably end up going from most popular to rarest

See your point Rod but I find mine is fine with modern day motoring and still comfortable even on a long trip.

I drove mine from Stoke-on-trent to Aberdeen last summer and was worried it was going to break down almost every 5 minutes, it didn't though

I still think there ok for everyday motoring too. If you wanna be boring stick to your modern euro box. Ive driven all over the country to shows. Dont worry about if it breaks down. If the car has been well maintained it should (lol) be ok.

I have said this before, if they are well built and maintained they are no more unreliable than any modern car. Perhaps I have been lucky but but in 19 years of owning mine the only thing that has gone wrong was the original alternator packed up. I have always " driven " mine not poodled around in it and it has never failed an MOT apart from last year when my honeycomb background number plates were no longer legal! Yes I have spent quite a lot on it but that has been my choice to make it go faster, stop quicker, change gear easier ( hydraulic clutch conversion ) and hold the road better. It always puts a smile on my face when I am out in it and it attracts attention when I go somewhere. Most people say they cant believe it was made in 1990!!

Would be a better idea to find how many are registered to the Rsoc
