Evening
I want to fit an ST170 engine into my Series One, keeping it naturally aspirated to begin with.
Does the engine bolt straight in and what gearbox options do I have?
1. Mk1 Focus RS
2. ST170 6 speed
3. RS Turbo
And what driveshafts are needed?
Apologies for the amount of questions, but tried searching with not much luck.
Cheers.

no richie it won't bolt straight in sadly. the alternator will be in the way of the existing engine mount for a start and the st170 will need fabrication to allow it to marry up with the inner wing.
if you can find a good focus rs box i'd use that but the nearside inner wing will need modifying to give enough clearance. st170 box will mean a flywheel change eventually as the dual mass one won't deal with revs or power very well. an rs turbo box can be used but you'll run into the usual power related bearing failures if forced inducted later on.

The standard cvh mount can be modified. Move the alternator to the front like on the cvh.

Thanks for the info/answers
It will never be turbo'd so I guess the rst/ib5 option is easiest. Are they the same box?
Is the alternator moved using standard brackets or do I need a custom one?
