Default 4wd anti roll bar on 2wd saff problems!

Fitted a 4wd anti roll bar to my saff today, fitted it to the tca's but it's a good 2 inch further back where it's suppose to mount to the chassis! even if I pull it forward it seems there's not enough room in the arches between bumper and wheel. Any ideas? Different tca's maybe?

A 4wd antiroll bar is not meant to be on a 2wd car. The tcas mount on a different location to the crossmember on a 4wd, so the arb is also different to cope with that.

the geometry on the 4wd car is set up to suit the 4wd car so the 2wd one is fairly different

the angles of the arb are different too so you will be putting the suspension components under different stresses

the 2wd arb on a 4wd car makes for brilliant turn in but really nervous straight line and no stability when normal driving as the wheels want to follow every single line

if it's 4wd then use the 4wd stuff, if it's 2wd then use the 2wd stuff

if you are simply removing the front shafts and turning it into 2wd from 4wd then keep the 4wd stuff because it won't mix with the 2wd stuff

So using all the 2wd front running gear on my 4x4 wont work then dojj?

The engine i got is a 2wd engine so do i have to change to a 4x4 sump, crossmember, hubs, roll bar then?

If you are using all 4wd stuff to 2wd stuff then you need:
Arb
Tcas
Hubs
Struts
Cross member
Engine mounts
Steering rack
Intermediate steering shaft
Sump
Gearbox
Gear stick
Speedo drive
Abs stuff

Thats off the top of my head

The actual metal chassis of most later sierras were all designed to be able to be 4wd as from about 90 onwards they started to get the wider 4wd accommodating transmission tunnel so as far as bolting stuff on its all the same

What you have to remember though is that they weren't built to a perfect accuracy and so there was plenty of scope to adjust stuff around, which also explains why there are so many issues with the rear arb mounting issues when you fit a poly diff mount

There were also a different length threaded and shouldered arb available so it really is a whole losd of tiral wnd error to fit stuff on in the correct place

Thanks for the info dojj - i take its just going to be a case of trial and error with all the alignment.

I don't agree with the later bodies being prepared. I have a regular '91 sapph and I have had a '92 sapph, but both didn't have the wider 4x4 tunnel.

lots of them were though, more than weren't, the only thing they didn't do was notch the front chassis legs for the shafts

every dohc sierra i've had that was 90 spec onwards had the wider tunnel, and i've broken 18 or 19 of them in total

i know that's not conclusive proof because you've got 2 cars that didn't
