Can anyone help me setting the idle on my series 2 please...

It seems to be revving little high and I would like to turn it down about 300 rpm or so. What's the best way to do it?

I have made sure the cold start on the inlet manifold isn't sticking by unplugging it and the idle stays the same. The big thumb screw on the inlet does nothing at all when tightening it up but it cuts out when I remove it

Is there a mixture screw on the throttle body or anything on the metering head to adjust? I won't be going mad with it just a turn or two to see if it makes a difference.

All pipes are in tacked with no vacume leaks.

Any info appreciated

 

You need to check the auxlilary air valve that's behind the inlet, to see if it's stuck open.



Ideally you should be able to adjust the idle speed with the 'thumb screw' with the spring under the throttle body.

Check the brake servo and servo pipe for leaking too.

GVK you are correct, the auxillary valve is stuck open. What is the purpose of the valve and can it be blanked off untill I get a new one?

Its basically an 'old school' cold idle valve. Just lets extra air in when cold to maintain a stable idle. Has a bimetallic strip inside that heats up (both via the 12v connection and engine heat) that closes the halfmoon inside so that when the engine is warm, no extra air flows through.

If you remove it, your cold idle will be shite!

 

By passed the valve but once the car was at normal running temp I swapped it back over and there was no change so i doubt it is that aux air device. Found an HT lead earthing out so I have changed that. I removed the idle bolt from the throttle body and it's just a bolt with a flat end... ? Should this have a pointed end?

I have just checked all the pipes and hoses again and no leaks at all. Are there any other things I can check? The car idles smooth just a little quick...

Idle screw should have a tapered end and a spring on it.

 

There is much more to engine idle on an MFi than just the sensors or settings etc. All the components and parts need to be setup and adjusted to match the spec. What's right for one engine can be different to the next obviously. If you read a setup guide (someone else can post a link for you). This should help find out what's right and wrong with what you have.
