Default Series 2 Escort RS Turbo, new purchase, project underway

I have recently bought a series 2 Escort RS Turbo. It wasn't advertised anywhere on the internet, I placed a wanted add of a Facebook page and a guy contacted me.

It has loads of history, all MOT's and every receipt from new. The car itself isn't bad, this is the 3rd RST I viewed in as many days and due to the work left to get it mint I went for this one.

It was off the road from 2002 until last year where it has gone through a light restoration, full engine rebuild, recon turbo, recon alloys etc... This is going to be my daily driver from now on but luckily with working away a lot I can drop the car off when I go and get bits and pieces done to it.

I have just bought a set of RS 7 spoke softlines from a guy off ebay, my plan is to raise the ride height slightly because I think its sitting a bit low at the moment, convert it to a 90 spec outside and get the interior tidied up. Paint work and finish is very good, the only down side is with the windows not being removed the lacquer has started to peel in places, nothing major but it needs attention. I have a friend who I met recently who will hopefully be seeing to it. With out paying 5-6K your not going to get everything you want from a 24 year old car, I had to start somewhere and I thought a respray or there about is my easiest option worst case scenario.

I paid just under 3k for the car which I don't think is that bad for peace of mind having the engine, turbo and all the welding done. I think its a great starting point for a clean usable classic. I am not going for concours just something half decent I can take to a show that people will enjoy seeing.

I have just sold my 2006 WRX STI Hawkeye, it's definitely a step back in time jumping into an old RS, re living my youth!

He are some pictures I received with the car;

Its going to stay totally standard inside so in the process of tightening up and fixing all the niggles inside, I have got a parts list consisting of

90 spec spoiler/tailgate, front bumper, new drivers Recaro due to bolster worn (or I'll get it repaired)

new 25mm lowering springs all round

4in outward rolled S/S exhaust system

parcel shelf

white dials

Spotlamps

RS mudflaps

The speedo and rev counter need attention as they have stopped working.

I'll keep this thread updated as my progress continues

Cheers mate, just a pitty about the lacquer peeling. Probably like a lot of us on here I can't seem to break free from the 1990's

I thought it was a bit low... it doesn't look bad with the 17's when it got finished last year, but I am going for a set of springs so I know its right.

A member said lower it 25-35mm so I am thing of just going 25mm to be on the safe side. I prefer a standard ride height than how low it is at the moment, its knocked the camber out too .

Cheers
