Default Cosworth cooling system question....would this work???

I am making a custom header tank for my fiesta cosworth 4x4 but as my layout is different and I do not run any heater etc I want to change we're the coolant hoses run,

I am placing the header tank in the passenger wheel arch nicely out of the way and for the main feed to the water system to the tank I was going to connect into where the fan switch normally goes as fans will be Ecu controlled,

In the pic below is the original connection from the water pump that goes straight back to the header tank, could I just block this one off?

Can anybody tell me any issues with this?
To release air back to the header tank I will be adding a swirl pot with top outlet back to header tank as well

Thanks
Marc

The small out let of the water pump needs to be connected to the small connection on the back of the head, original feed from header tank go's in to the bottom hose so cant imagine feeding it into the opposite side of the rad would make any odds, also need to mount the header tank higher than any other part of the water system.

Hi mate

Cheers for the reply but ive heard people confusing these outlets with the small outlet on the thermostat housing

A few people in my build thread confirmed the small outlet on the water pump goes to header tank

Noup. It's for the heater.

edit. The one you have plugged (in thermostat housing), goes to header tank.

Evening Mark,

My view is that this is a supply from the header tank that enables the water from the turbo return to cycle through back to the main cooling system.

Could it possibly prevent cavitation in the water pump as well?

Why not just plumb it in like it should be?

I would double check that Harvey told me to run mine that way, I have a similar system no heater no water/oil cooler.

The small out let on the water pump originally went to the heater and then ended up back at the header tank, small pipe out of the thermostat to turbo then to header tank.

Apparently if you don't connect the head up it can trap water at the back of the head and boil it, hence connecting it up to the water pump.

To be safe then I will plumb the thermostat outlet (capped in my pic above) to the outlet at the rear of the head above the water temp sensor so I have circulation around the head,

So with that done, could I cap off the small outlet on the water pump that originally went to heater or header tank and plumb the header tank to the lower corner of the radiator?

Thanks
Marc

Thanks Stu,

So i will connect the thermostat outlet to the back of the head and try blanking the pump outlet and using bottom rad hole instead,

Thanks
