so the I know 2 things

1 you need to chop and weld a socket to fit of some sort?

2 it ain't easy as everyone would be doing it!

which leads me to who has done it? What's involved? Any how to guides on the net?


As I've got a box with no 3rd gear left I might aswell atempt to strip it and rebuild it again, as nothing to loose.

it's "easy" enough IF you take care and use some cable ties to hold it all together when you reassemble it AND weld that socket together AND have a bit of luck putting reverse gear back in again AND don't piss the syncros out all over the place when you remove them

but if you fail, make sure you can get it and all the bits to a local gearbox place to stick back together again

do you know if you have stripped the main shaft of the countershaft gear in 3rd?

 

seems doable then dojj!

It's a case of I'm bored, get several big projects to start, house / garden wise but due to winter and the shit weather it's on hold, need something to occupy my time when not looking after the baby.


If I fail to reassemble it no loss, don't plan on using new parts , just using it as a practice. ( something to do )

as for what's broken, no 3rd gear and when you look at the cog through the reverse switch hole, it's missing many teeth!

 

the front input shaft nut is the hardest thing to undo, after that things are easy

if you can get a suitable socket for that you can use the same socket on the rear too, the 4wd has a longer output shaft to spin up the transfer box, which, when you pull it apart, is very simple but very complicated at the same time

 

What size is this special socket that I need to extend ?
