38mm festoon bulbs in a mk1 focus

can anyone tell me if 38mm festoon bulbs will fit in the rear number plate lamps as oppose to the 36mm stated on a mk1 focus?

why not just get the proper 36mm ones?

I got 39mm LED ones in mine, they fitted fine. I checked the bulb code before buying and everywhere said 239 bulbs

The fitting has a lot of movement; can't even remember what's in mine, but they are LEDs.
