engine break in after rebuild
Can anyone advise a good break in routine after a rebuild? Steel rods have been fitted and also replaced big end shells and piston rings. Engine is a vw 1.8t but I expect break in cycles would be the same as any engine. I have used assembly lube through out the build. Should the rpm be raised on initial start up? How soon should oil be changed and how should I drive it? Cheers
Load it up to bed rings in... don't just plod round in it, otherwise rings won't bed in and it'll always use oil...

Your best off reading that link I posted...
Long straight roads are fine...
ie 3 gear empty dual carriage way, 3rd gear 20-25mph then to the floor let it pull right round to rev limiter then off, let it coast back to 30mph, then into 4th and same again.
Have you gotta do any mapping too?
We did my Scooby and Orion running in with no boost first, did a oil change, then back out and added boost plus mapping...
The Scooby was quite a experience with a 5th gear pull and 25psi round to the red line...

Car is already mapped by Badger5,
I'm getting ready for more power hence the rods going in. It will go back to Badger5 for more mapping once run in. I will run the car with the N75 unplugged for the first 30miles so it will only run actuator pressure which is around 10psi.
It usually runs 24psi

I looked down at 165mph...
The lad that had if after me had a PPG box built, flat out in top gear was 183mph...
Shame the clutch started to slip at 25psi...
The new owner still had it on RR with clutch slip and it did 420bhp...
The Orion ain't shy... It won't go that quick but you need to be far more alert on boost in 5th...
Fwd is fun but the Scooby at speed felt so stable...
