Not all C/F needs to be vac formed Rich

So the frames will put the weight back in - unless they are carbon too

I know very little about CF. Only that theres 2 types. The Vac type and the other sort. Pre-preg? Oh and its nasty nasty shit when you grind it.

Bear in mind this is the guy who wants a new intercooler because his hoses keep coming off, so Ive got no faith in anything the guy does

there is no need for that what has the owner of grs done to offend you, to deserve a verbal bashing and a potential loss of customers

NO!

Basically I know a guy whose VERY VERY good with CF. Hes thinking about getting into doing parts for Performance Cars as a sideline. Currently doing a Quattro Rear wing and has done a Bonnet for an RX7. (his brothers IIRC)

Anyway, and I'll try to be accurate. He says theres 2 sorts of people doing C/F work at the moment. Those who build yachts and swimming pools. These are the people that reinforce with Glas fibre and have bonnets that are far too floppy when finished so need a frame put inside them. Basically they've seen that CF is becoming popular and are trying to cash in.

Then theres the other type of builder who has worked in Premier League motorsport and various other "interesting" projects. And have made bonnets that are self supporting and weigh less than the competitions. Downside is that it isnt cheap compared to the other type

I'll let you work out which category he falls into

chill fella's

Its a good idea - and I wish it well Im all for a bit of DIY but somethings that are readily available on the shelf are sometimes easier just to go out and buy.

Dunno if your bro works for himself, but if he looses his job for pinching some stock would you feel happy all for saving Ł200

Sorry - I don't think making your own seat is a good idea. You could find out the hard way that it's not strong enough - severe injury/death in the event of an accident.

Manufacturers do a lot of testing before they sell their seats - the tests have been developed for good reason. For example, the seat and mountings will have to undergo a 25kN (2.5 tonnes) luggage retention sled test (I think it's done at something like 20mph) - that's a lot of kinetic energy the seat and mounts has to absorb/withstand.

You may think "so what - I'm not going to manufacture and sell the seats", but now imagine you've got a passenger behind you and you crash - if they're not belted up, and your seat cracks, the only thing stopping them is you and your seat belt - you'll not be a happy teddy sandwiched between the two. Alternatively, you bin the back seat and fit a harness. The harness fits through/over the seat. In a crash, your forward movement causes a downwards load on the seat from the harness - if the seat cracks, so will your back.

I'm not saying that seats can't be made from C/F, I'm saying that if you can't test your design, I don't think it's a good idea.

You didnt ask for advice, you just said you was gonna get your bro to make you soem carbon seats (and carbon mounts, lol), and what do we think?

We all think its a good idea, but we also think we'l belive it (that they gonna exist and be any good) when we see it.

No advice to give is there....

dont kit cars use them. Like nuts rus says could be easier just buying some have a look on some kit car sites, afterall do you want them pulling out the floor if you have an accident(ps that is not a dig at your brothers skills just stating they may not be as good or strong as an established company could make them)

Then stop writing drivel. And I wont take the piss

You started off stupid. With the "Just bought a shitter, its my fault but can I blame someone else post" And your brother/mate? just as stupid HERE

Funny how it turns out to be pretty good actually! HERE

Then there was the "Intercoolers shit, need a new one"
post because the hoses kept blowing off.
Now you reckon you can make Carbon Fibre seats

Wheres that video clip you should watch about "Guide to Posting"

Oh here it is
