54 plate mk2 focus 1.6 TI-VCT cam belt change advice
Hi Guys
New to the forum and hoping to get some advice.
Recently picked up a 54 plate mk2 focus 1.6 TI-VCT with 65k on the clock.
Looking through the service record there is no sign of the cam belt being changed so I'm looking to get it done
In addition to this the thermostat is stuck open so I will get this done at the same time.
Got a quote for a local (oxfordshire) independant which came out as.
New cam belt
New water pump
New thermostat
New AUX belt
Fitted for 290+ VAT
Sounds reasonable but do I really need to change the water pump and AUX belt?
I know AUX belt is stretched to fit but the Haynes manual does not say you have to fit a new one each time.
Also the water pump is behind the cam belt so if that went after I would end up paying this all over again.
But what are the chances?
Do they fail often?
Maybe just a quick inspection to see its all ok?
A lot of questions I know but could really do with some advice.
Thanks

Belts on these are 100000 miles or 96 months.
Stretchy belts can be re-used, but 'officially' you replace them if removed, as 'officially' you cut them off to remove them, so require replacement. They're quite expensive to replace so your quote doesn't seem bad.
2.6hrs for cam belt r & i.
3.5hrs for water pump if AC
The water pumps can fail, and would be advisable to be replaced 'while they're doing it' as sod's law says it'll start leaking in a few months time.
