After paying nearly 30 quid and waiting 4 days my header tank arrived at Allen Ford in Leamington Spa today....

Went to pick it up, it looked the same so I thought sweet as I will go back to work and fit it!

Take the old one out, drain all the coolant to put the new one in to find it is different It is a bit deeper than the one that was on there and wouldnt fit in at all (it did but bonnet couldnt shut)

Phone up ford and all they could say is that I have the later RS turbo tank and an early RS turbo and because it was a special order item basicly there is nothing they can do even though the guy got my car up using my Reg number on the screen and ordered the wrong part

Am 30 quid down now with a header tank that doesnt fit my car and a split in the one on there.....fun

On with the search for a header tank....

 

 

If the guy got your car up on screen and HE ordered that tank........his fault.

Not like you gave him the wrong info was it, he couldnt get the right bit.

 

Thinking about it, surely the tanks are EXACTLY the fookin same size?????????

I know mate, he said it was only a "cheap" item so they would not take it back! He said he would do his best to get a new one that will fit I will just say can I have a look and walk out with it leaving mine on his desk

 

Thats what I thought, I reckon he must have got the wrong one as it is way deeper than the one that is on there which means it doesnt line up with the holes and the bonnet wont shut

 

Well i know the early and late RS Turbo's didnt have anything different bodywise so he is talking out of his Rectum

thats bollox, his mistake he gives you a refund or you stand in the dealership and shout what a bunch of tossers they are at the top of your voice until they sort out a refund

Just go in tomorrow with the tank and TELL them that THEY have made the mistake as you gave them the Reg Number, If THEY cant work out what THEY should be ordering, its not your problem.

6201 and then a 3 on the end! There may be a 6 in the middle

That would be 6201893 And the wrong tank. The date for that tank is 08/89 to 08/90

You SHOULD have 1651060 which is a tank from 11/87 to 08/89 and it should be slightly cheaper.

 

RSTs had different depth inner wings, hence different tanks!

Just demand your money back mate, its your right! Then goto a more competant ford dealer!

 

I usually use the dealer in Coventry which are usually pretty good but used Leamington because it is closer to my work!

I will go in and say it but he was saying it is Fords policy not to take things back from special delivery under a certain amount!

i work in Ford Parts if he ordered the wrong part , then you should get your money back. He is talking shit, Ford Dealers invested a lot of money on things like MICROCAT so it would reduce partsman error, but it only works if the cock uses it properly. Plus your car being earlier than a K reg he would have needed chassis number to look correct part on the screen.
