Default Best rear offset for a 3dr cossie

Im after getting 2 new Pro Race 1.2s for the rear of the 3dr to fill the arches better.

Im thinking of getting 17x8 ET25 with 215/40 tyres

Is the above size the best to go for ?

Also what is the best place to get the wheels from (cheapest lol )

Steve

The wheels I have at the moment are 17x7 ET35 with 215/40 tyres.

I didn't want the ET to low as I don't want tyre arch contact and I don't want to cut the arches.

My rear offset on my 3 Door on a 8 x 17 rim is ET17 but I reckon you could go even less.

Best set up for a 3 door is 8j ET30 on the rear with decent shocks they won't catch the arches, take a look at the first pic on my 3 door for sale thread.

I have 8x18 ET35 front and ET25 rear with 215/35 front tyres and 225/35 on the rear, I reckon that's the best compromise if you actually want to be able to carry passengers in the rear. Trouble is with 17" wheels no one seems to make a 225/40 rear tyre which would be ideal on the rear with a 25 offset and maybe a 215/40 front.

I would say et30 on a 8x17" wheel and 215/40/17 tyres with no arch mods, anything below and I think your gonna struggle with arch contact from the tyre. All this presuminmg you have Konis and a decent set of springs fitted to the car, from memory you do so that's what i would say from my experience from owning 4 3dr cossies (inc a 500) ranging from 17" to an 18" wheel.
I hope this helps Steve.

Bearing in mind Steve doesn't want to cut the arches as he has already stated.
Put it this way a 235 tyre with an et25 rim, would defiantley foul the arches,I know Justin had this set up on his white 3dr and had problems with the tyre fouling the rear arch, his car was fitted with fairly new Koni and Ahmed springs at the time.

I had a 235 tyres on my last 3dr with the cxns and they were an et35 offset, arches were trimmed but the tyre did contact the front end of the rear arch occassionally.
I think if you had coilovers fitted you are open to more options as there is so much more adjustment with ride height etc than on the Konis.

Why not just try a 6mm spacer on the wheels you already have just to see what it looks like or be brave and try a 10mm spacer, just to see how it looks and if you get any fouling issues once driving the car. You won't get any problem until the car squats when it comes on boost then that will tell the true story.Stick with the 215 tyre as the arches are uncut and you have the Konis already fitted up. It's a minefield Steve, trial and error I'm affraid.

It would be a lot cheaper just to try spacers first as you say. Do you need longer wheel studs with a 10mm spacer ?

The car don't boost hard enough to squat

Well I have got longer 63mm wheel studs fitted on my car, should be fine on the standard studs though Steve,at least just to try out a set of spacers anyway. You could go for 47mm wheel studs if you think there's not enough turns on the standard studs.
As for the car squatting, well yes I know it's a stage 1 chip, didn't like to mention it won't boost hard enough for the car to squat properly which maybe a good thing as far as your wheel offsets go.Try some spacers first just experiment a bit with them as I say 6mm,then try a 10mm if you feel the 6mm aren't sufficient and as long as they don't foul the arches of course.

Thanks.Lee.
