Have done a search but not able to find anything.

Anyway, my current Piper vernier camshaft pulleys are shagged with:

Inlet cam - 18thou run out
Exhaust pulley - 5thou run out

Visibly the inlet cam had a hell of a wobble...cams have come back ok. So looking at buying some Kent pulleys from Burton Power.

Question is, have people noted any increased wear from the alloy pulleys vs steel? Is that sort of wear/damage commong on high kms Piper Pulleys?

Its quite possible that they were 2nd hand jobbies used in the rebuild or just simp;ly damaged...just wondering if this is one of those things and that Piper are recognised as being better than Kent and should buy another set of Piper???Another brand???

I've had adjustable Kent ones on one of my old engines with no problems, admittedly I didn't do many miles with them though. If I was to use some again though I think I'd go for the pegged Quaife ones though, firstly because there's supposed to be less chance of them slipping, and secondly because they look good lol

 

It is a common problem on the alloy pullies, i have piper ones on mine and there is certainly some wear on them,

Which are hard anodised, which from what i have seen stops this from happening. I think i will be fitting some to mine.

The quaife ones are also very good, and they offer a steel version.

 

I've got quaife steel pulleys and they only cost about £130 delivered

 

All the well known brands of alloy pulley are hard anodised they do not last anywhere near as long as steel ones

 

You can buy hardened pulleys which will not wear as quick as normal alloy type ones that kent, piper, burton etc offer.

 

I grabbed some Kent ones for the time being. Will keep a eye on them and if need by may go the Quaife route
