Default Escort cos running in

Hello, just had the engine rebuilt in my escort cos, got to run it in for 1000 miles, it is running on grey injectors. I have only run about 30 miles and the new spark plugs are sooted up already, the car is over fuelling. Is it ok using greys as I am not revving the bollocks out of it? Just concerned might be getting bore wash?

did you had the greys fitted before the rebuild and does the chip match the greys?

you cannot just change injectors as the chip needs to match it.

Hello,yes the greys were fitted before the rebuild with a matched chip. Problem is I used over quarter of a tank of fuel just doing 30 miles and only revved it to 2500 rpm! is it better to change injectors + chip? I just don't want to fuck up the engine?

Make sure you run the engine in with mineral oil or runnin in oil then use fully synthetic

As per the Vulcan Engineering running in procedure;

Spin engine over with out plugs to get oil pressure

When engine started do not allow to idle, ideally should be run at 2000rpm for 10 minutes

0-500 miles max rpm 4000-4500. Change oil and filter at 500 miles and check head torgue

500-1000 miles max rpm 4500-5000

1000-1500 miles max rpm 5000-5500, change oil and filter and put fully synthetic

And they recommend not getting rolling road tuned for 3000 miles

How would I test if the map sensor is ok ? Everything is plugged in and looks ok

I see this in a couple of ways.

1. The map was not correct to start with before the build as it shouldn't run that rich.
2. There is an issue with sensor or timing etc that's causing the bad CO% could be many reasons from a dead sensor to the cam timing etc etc.

Did the engine get mapped before the rebuild or at least a decent tune. If it did then I would say that you should take it to a tuner with the spec as is and get it looked over sooner rather than later.

If it you cant get to a tuner in your position id rather run it in using a standard ecu and parts like injectors and map sensor. At least then the fuel should be controlled a bit better. But if there is an issue it will still over fuel.

If was on a good map to start with the fuel side of things would be fine for running in, just sounds like yours for whatever reason is not right.

Overall get it looked at it will only help.
