insurance question??
If you go look at a car and it takes a couple of hours to get there and it at 6pm when you get there how do you drive it back??
You can't ring up insurance because the lines are shut and you didn't want to ring the day before incase you didn't want the car
What do you do?? Can you drive it back?? Where do you stand legally??
Is there any way around this without having to go back the next day??

Have you got a mate with a "driving other cars" policy who could drive it back for you?
I've done that before - but some say the car has to have its own insurance for "driving other cars" to be valid?
Any insurance experts help?

i can drive other cars, and they DONT have to be insured by anyone else, but say you stop for fuel and it gets nicked etc you are not covered, only while driving it.
thats what HIC told me.

Tell the guy you'll have it. Contact the insurance company and collect it the following day.
Not worth the risk of bringing it back uninsured and having a prang. Think of the potential consequences if you had a mishap and somebody was injured. Accidents don't have to be your fault. Somebody could hit you and you could be doing nothing wrong.

For the "other cars" extension to be valid, I believe the car must also be insured by the owner.
If you are driving a car under the clause it isn't insured by your policy - the only cover provided is for third parties under Road Traffic Act cover.
So if the bump is your fault you have to sort out the damage to your mate's car at your own expense.
If the bump is someone else's fault the owner is insured under his own policy and he can claim off the other party PROVIDED you were insured to drive the car legally. So if you aren't a named driver, you need to have the "other cars" clause on your insurance.
If the car didn't need its own insurance, we could all register our cars to our mum and have really cheap insurance on a banger and be covered to drive the nice ones.
