Hi Folks, I know you have seen this car before and for as long as I have
owned her I could have sworn it was MERCURY grey!

However on deciding to really MINT her up which includes an inside boot
respray (I'll post pics eventually) with panel spray from HAlfords I find that
the Mercury grey in cans is much darker than the rest of the car??

I know there was a nimbus grey but I thought this was on earlier XR2s.
Mine is a September 1988 XR2 and the paint code under bonnet says
either Q7 or O7, hard to tell which. Can anyone identify my colour or give
me a list of codes and colours for the various years!?

Cant say for definate but XR2i's deffo come in Mercury grey which as you say looks darker and FRST's come in Nimbus which is lighter ( one of each colour ive owned ).
Your best bet is to take the paint code of the VIN plate and ask your dealer.

the code for your car is Q7= mercury grey in the PPG code book for ford 1987-1991.
4 different shades available.
also known as titan grau in germany...

 

Hi,I had a fiesta which was Balial blue,only when ford gave it to me,they gave me what they said was that blue,it was 2 shades too dark.I went a man round the corner who makes paint,he took the code from the car and matched it perfectly,apparently there was 8 diff shades, juts goes to show...

 

I would say its mercury grey , but not 100% ,, but would put money on it

 

i've gota say, that is the cleanest XR2 ive ever seen! good work..

 

hope you dont need a respray on your roof after puttin all that shit on it!!!!!!
