once upon a time, i had lots a very fast cosworth and lots of money........
then the cosworths began to rape my pocket, then my bank manager, then i sold them as my bum and wallet were very sore from raped on a regular basis!
3 Saffs and a home built Escort Cosworth later and well over £80,000 i got into 5 cylinder Audis, same story blah blah raped, sore arse, selling everything etc
so, now i own this saff............
woke up the next day, looked round it, very very tidy and put a massive grin accross me face!

missing its bollocks off, cutting out, heaters going cold and temp gauge rising
then remembering, i wanted a cheap daily not another fuckin project!!!!!! What a COCK i am.....ARGH!! Sean ya muppet.....
Tried a thermostat, seemed fine for 20 mins, them same thing again
Anyway, im using the car to drive from Essex to Newcastle at Clitmas with my 2yr old so i want it 100% right.
Engine only done 27,000 from new and its bound to get a YB soon enough... but you saw that coming a fucking mile off......... right lads?!
what i spend now i will get back when i sell this PERFECT 1.8CVH
so,
off with its head!!!!
straight doon the machine shop.
valves oot, and looks like someones been smashing the guides and seats with a pick axe!
fuck it, re-cut seats, new guides, refaced valves, fully de-coked and hot washed for 24 hrs
£200 later i picked the head up
(P.s Since when did 1.8CVH`s have roller rockers?! thats class!!)
new parts to play with:
FULL head set inc bolts, front crank seal, water pump, new Genuine Ford heater matrix, Genuine Ford Thermostat and gasket, oil filter, Upgraded headlight bulbs, 5yr Coolant, 10w60 Fuchs oil (overkill but this engine is a minter so dont mind going the extra mile) Iridium plugs, new Genuine plug leads, battery round terminal conversion thingies, £80 worth of battery and EVERY water, fuel and vacuum pipe replaced (yes i know, worth more than the car
) once ran up to temp i put a oil system cleaner in it, followed the destructions and dropped the new 10w60Fuchs out, put another new filter on it, changed the sump plug for magnetic one with new seal, then put ANOTHER new filter on it, and another 10w60 Fuchs oil 5ltrs
So,
we bolt the head back down, hang on......... summats wrong with the top right headbolt, its bottoming out WTF?!
what a cunt
head back off, checked the threads and tried and old bolt, no all good, no fluids in there so not hydraulicing or owt?!
Head back on, nope, still the same. Fucking thing was gonna get set on fire!
So i trimmed the base of the bolt and torqued it down, lovely! No need for Sierra barbacue now
Now........ heres the thing.
The missfire and dodgy heating were caused (im suspecting) by the previous owner having the same issue with the bolt bottoming out and not realising (or knowing and fucking it off to me sharpish lol!)
either way, me and my lad finished it off today, when my boy started it up after oil priming it wouldnt fire up, DOH, fecking imobliser isnt plugged in lol
Also the old guy who had it origionally, has installed a very intricate home made Imobliser system that links into the EDIS and crank signals to not allow the coil to fire!!
This is all housed in a 1992 Flora margarine tub on the inner wing, i shit you not lol!!
So, immobliser plugged in, VROOM...... little man fires it up, gives it a few revs and it puuuuuuuuuuuurs like a kitten, no smoke, no rattles and NO leaks
he even comes out of the car and gives me a high 5 for fuck sake, how cool is that
after a few mins of pre-drive checks i throw the booster pack and a few tools in the footwell and we go for a drive.
the heaters passed the 10second test with flying colours
( the 10 second test is, full heat, vent direction, 1 vent open and see if you have to take your hand away as its so hot before 10 seconds pass lol
)
Some pics of the beast in question
and little man who helped me finish it off today.
he loves the old sierra, he really does and getting his hands dirty fixing stuff, doing up hose clips etc
wasnt so funny when he was hitting the headlamps with a fookin hammer though
Good job they have headlamp protectors eh
Jobs still to do:
erm, nowt really..........!
Gonna machine polish it tomorrow as some of the pannels have faded.
it drives so so nice, 30mph in 5th is just under 1500rpm, roll on the throttle gently and it surges away, fuckin go on lad
goes sideways for fun too lol!!
i remember why i loves Cosworths so much now, hence ive done about £500 on this old nail in 2 weeks and thats not including the Vento i swopped it for
will keep you updated with shitty posts on a weekly basis no doubt,
and pics of my 2yr old getting covered on polish tomorrow when he helps machine polish our blue turd

There we have it,
drive the car 86miles today and i love it to bits, people point at it, Ben loves it and im a happy camper for now........ need the Audi oot me garage so i can keep the Saff warm over the winter
this is the best shell ive seen in the last 15 years, EASY!! (unrestored or painted ofcourse.)
passed MOT with advisory of tyres perishing due to age and TCA bush play
the rear chassis legs are so so clean you wouldnt belive
cant wait to drive it tomorrow
oh and tax it, keep forgetting to tax the fucker......... must tax it

I've already started buying bits for it!!
Ordered a brand new front bumper from Fords the other day and brand new genuine Amber rear lenses!! Ordering a new rear bumper and all new mouldings when I get paid again! I'm shocked that they're still available!!
Gonna get it painted, drop it a little bit and stick a set of diamond cut sharktooths on it as well!
Just got to decide what engine to put in it as well, swaying towards a BOA at the mo.
People will probably think I'm mental but it was the first car I ever bought when i was 16 and I gave it to my dad so I'm quite attached to it!

I've been meaning to do something with it for ages but never got round to it!!
Yeah it's a White twin cam hatch!! Used to loved driving it about!
I bought it from the Ford dealer I used to work for when I was an apprentice. It was their drivers car which a chain tensioner guide bolt worked loose and got caught in the chain causing the chain to snap so I bought it and repaired it! Was a proper minter back then!
Part of me says leave the twin cam in there, just give it a freshen up!

Ginger...... Will it fuck lol!
i set the Auto choke up when it was all in bits, so its closed when cold, and nope, no difference
although it does idle at 600rpm when stone cold and starts first crack of the key every time.
im not too bothered as it will get very very little use before the YB goes in.

Now we're going old school - normally it's (was) the choke pull off vacuum capsule job that makes them run shit when cold.
(1.8 with Peirburg carb.)
Suck through a bit of vac pipe connected to it and see if it holds vac. (Or put a mity-vac on it)

there is a vac thing that has snapped off, but it runs fine when warm so couldnt give a fuck about it runing when cold
just blanked off the vac pipe at the back of the carb with a nice, new and very shiny M6 bolt

here is the pipe between carb and rocker cover!

the vac diaphragm should be between the auto choke and the pipe ive blanked off, opposite the other one in the pic, if that makes sense. It was broken off so i just drop kicked it up the garden

it is, best ive seen since maby 2001 or so!!
untouched wise anyway.
no underseal missing, no scabby bits on the chassis
no cracks in the chassis and NO squished jacking points
dunno why its had the back of the car painted, seems a shame but should be ok after a machine polish id guess
